Heather Glen is a quiet suburban neighborhood that’s close--but not too close--to parks and downtown Concord. Residents are four miles, or a 10-minute drive from downtown Concord, and about the same distance to Mt. Diablo State Park. There’s also an elementary school in the heart of the neighborhood, so kids can walk to and from school. Nothing is ever too far away in Heather Glen.
Ranch homes in the suburbs

The area is served by the Mount Diablo Unified School District, which has a B-plus rating on Niche. Silverwood Elementary School has a B rating on Niche, and El Dorado Middle School has a C rating. Concord High School has a B-plus rating and has an industrial arts program and award-winning visual and performing arts programs. The school band regularly wins inter-school band competitions and was named “Best Band in the Bay Area” in 2023 by San Francisco Fleet Week.
Getting around Concord
Bay Area Rapid Transit serves Concord and has a station about three miles from the neighborhood. It provides a direct route into Oakland and San Francisco. Interstate 680 also provides a route into Oakland and San Francisco and is about five miles away. For travel farther afield, the Oakland International Airport is about 30 miles away.
A park for every purpose
Concord Community Park is Concord’s most popular park and draws in residents of all kinds to play and relax. “People play soccer, kids bike around the park and during the summer go to the pool,” says Marina Petrosov, a Realtor with Compass and Concord resident since 2013. Newhall Community Park is just across Clayton Road from Heather Glen, and offers multi-purpose fields, ponds and a dog park. Lime Ridge Open Space, which is less than five miles from Heather Glen, welcomes hikers and bikers looking for some adventure close to home. “We have nice hiking trails and views of Mt. Diablo,” says Petrosov. For a walk close to home, most residents head to Brazil Quarry Park, which is located inside the neighborhood. It’s a small grassy park surrounded by trees, with a playground and walking path.
Shop at The Veranda or dine at the plaza
Spanish-style hacienda buildings with shops and restaurants inside surround Todos Santos Plaza’s grassy recreation area. The architecture hearkens back to Concord’s founding in 1869 by Spanish settlers, and today the plaza is a popular community gathering area “At Todos Santos Plaza we have summer concerts and farmers’ markets. It’s very popular,” says Petrosov. It’s close to the area’s Bay Area Rapid Transit Station, and it’s popular with people all over the region to come by for a weekend out or a quick lunch. On the other side of downtown Concord, The Veranda is another outdoor shopping and dining experience, with restaurants like Yard House, Urban Remedy and Eureka, and shops like Old Navy, Barnes and Noble and T.J. Maxx. People can also grab groceries at Whole Foods Market.
A hub for music since 1975
Toyota Pavilion at Concord has been a community staple for live music since 1975. Its 12,000-seat arena welcomes a variety of music genres, and is especially popular during the summer, according to Petrosov.
