North End
Neighborhood in Concord, New Hampshire
Merrimack County 03301
The suburb's residential lanscape spans more than 200 years
North End’s oldest homes, some dating back to the late 1700s, cluster along quiet streets close to downtown. These properties come in varying architectural styles, from New Englanders to colonial and National styles. Farther west, larger properties sit back from tree-lined streets and cul-de-sacs. “They are nice, wooded lots, where it's common to see kids out riding bikes or playing basketball,” Mullen says. In this portion of the community, homes appear most often in New Traditional styles, featuring builds dating from the late 20th century through today. Home prices typically range from $300,000 to $600,000. However, larger custom homes and properties on more acreage can reach up to $1.2 million. Mobile homes of Valley Stream Estates and Townhomes are also available, with prices ranging from $45,000 to $275,000.Maintained parks and Capital Center for the Arts keep residents active
White Park is in the community and is one of the city’s busiest green spaces. Alongside a playground and splash pad, the busy green space has paved trails and a pond for fishing. When winter rolls around, its hill turns into a sledding slope, and the pond freezes over to become the city's hotspot for ice skating. Winant Park on Fisk Road offers natural immersion across its wooden trails, where hikers and bikers can spot local wildlife. Capital Center for the Arts downtown hosts various live shows from traveling Broadway shows to comedians and musicians.Public, private and post-secondary education options are available in the neighborhood
Concord School District serves the community and has a B-minus on Niche. Christa McAuliffe School teaches kindergarten through fifth grade and scores a B. Rundlett Middle School earns a C-plus. Since 2017, the school district has been formulating plans to renovate or completely rebuild the longstanding campus. Though final plans remain unknown, officials and locals hope to push this project forward in the coming years. Concord High School earns a B-minus rating. A-plus-rated St. Paul’s School and B-plus-rated Bishop Brady High School are two of several private options in the community. For postgraduates, New Hampshire Franklin Pierce School of Law and NHTI–Concord’s Community College are also in the neighborhood.City events like Concord NH Winter Fest bring the community together
“White Park is one of the city’s hubs for events,” Mullen says. “They hold the Black Ice Pond Hockey Championships there, where everyone from kids to grown men gets out and plays.” Held in early January, the tournament sees almost 700 players and runs with Concord NH Winter Fest. The two-day celebration features an ice carving competition, live music, a beer garden and more activities for all ages.Franklin Pierce Highway and Interstate 93 serve as main thoroughfares
Franklin Pierce Highway runs through the community’s center, linking residents to Concord Hospital and Downtown Concord. Folks can also reach the district via Concord Area Transit buses, with stops along the throughway. Interstates 393 and 93 are accessible from the neighborhood’s northeast corner. The latter connects the city to Manchester, some 20 miles south.Residents dine along Main Street and run errands at shopping centers off Interstate 93
At Beech Hill Farm & Ice Cream Barn, visitors can enjoy a sweet treat, purchase fresh produce and pet the farm animals. Locally owned businesses like Viking House and Pitchfork Records & Stereo sit within long-standing brick-clad storefronts on Main Street. “Downtown is beautiful, and they expanded the sidewalks a few years ago for pedestrians,” Mullen says. An array of restaurants share the district, including The Barley House Restaurant & Tavern, known for its traditional pub fare and occasional live music. “It’s a staple of the city, and it’s been around forever,” Mullen says. Burlington, Marshall's and other big-name stores are available at Capital Shopping Center next door, along with Market Basket for grocery Runs. Fort Eddy Plaza, on the other side of Interstate 93, offers more retail options.
