Suburban living in South Corona
What was once known as the “Lemon Capital of the World,” South Corona sits next to the Santa Ana Mountains, near the western edge of Southern California’s Inland Empire. Founded in 1886, people of all backgrounds migrated to the area seeking work in citrus fields, like those of the Corona Foothill Lemon Company, once California’s largest lemon ranch. South Corona today, a residential suburb, offers “solitude, privacy and space,” according to Michelle Williams, a Realtor for RE/MAX.
Affordable, spanish-revival homes
Compared to LA and Orange County, homes here are more affordable, and you have more space between houses,” says Williams. Spanish-inspired ranch-style homes from the late 90’s are priced between $650,000 and $850,000, with outdoor patios that lead to grass.
The streets in South Corona are well maintained and have lush greenery.

Heading outdoors near the Santa Ana Mountains
Skyline Drive Trail offers over 11 dirt-packed miles for bikers and hikers to enjoy the grassy, mountain views and purple, desert wildflowers, while Fresno Canyon Trail is lined with wooden fences to guide hikers on their trek. Families can visit the dino-inspired playground at Mountain Gate Park which also includes tennis and basketball courts. On hot, summer days, kids can cool off in the splash pads at Citrus Community Park. The Corona Heritage Park and Museum sits on the 5-acre heart of one of the last remaining pieces of the 2,000-acre lemon grove that once thrived here. Visitors can take tours to see a variety of tree species within the park and learn more about The Arts Colony Gallery, a group of local artists-in-residence whose studios are based in the park.

Shopping and dining near Grand Boulevard
Downtown Corona, known for its circular Grand Boulevard because of the city’s history of road racing, is the center of local shopping. Baco Wine and Grill offers higher-end Mexican-inspired steak and seafood dishes. Residents can also visit Miguel’s Jr. and Cowboy Surfer for a cheaper meal. The Shops at Dos Lagos, about a 20-minute drive east of South Corona, offer chain clothes and home goods retailers like Express and Z Gallerie. For grocery shopping, Albertson’s and Sprouts are about a 15-minute drive away.

Getting around South Corona
South Corona is very much a commuter town,” says Michelle Williams. She says Green River Road that connects to the Foothill Expressway has been a huge help in getting people across town, despite congested California traffic. People like to travel to both Temecula via the 15 for the wine country there and Anaheim via the 91 for those famous mouse ears. Public transit options like the Corona Cruiser bus system are also available.
About 50 miles from LA, the Inland Empire’s South Corona is an inviting, suburban neighborhood with plenty of mountain terrain to enjoy.
