Valeria has luxury homes and history as a resort
Valeria is a sought-after and secluded community in the Town of Cortlandt. Before the area was a luxury neighborhood, it was a popular resort built by Valeria Knapp Langeloth in the 1920s. Langeloth took the money she inherited from her husband Jacob’s will and honored his wishes by building the Valeria House. The resort was transformed into a residential community named Valeria in the 1980s. Some of the original resort's most relaxing and peaceful aspects draw homeowners to the area today.
“It has an unbelievable landmark clubhouse with a swimming pool, walking trails, a 43-acre lake and tennis courts,” says Candace D’Addario, Realtor of Candace D’Addario Homes Team. D’Addario and her team have sold multiple homes in the neighborhood, including the two most expensive properties in Valeria. “You get in there, and it’s breathtaking. You feel like you’re in Switzerland.” Nearly 700 acres of nature preserves surround the neighborhood, but despite feeling like a hidden spot in nature, residents can take a short drive to busy areas like Peekskill and Croton-on-Hudson.
New townhouses and condos in historic buildings
Valeria is filled with luxury condos and townhouses, and D’Addario says no two are the same. Townhouses are in sets of two or three, and the sets of two tend to have more square footage and higher prices. “I’d say a middle townhouse will be in the high $800,000s and over $1.175 million for a townhouse with more square footage.” Valeria’s streets are wide with no sidewalks, and there are parking spaces even though homes have attached garages and short driveways.
“The majority of people who live in Valeria have sold the home where they raised their kids, but they still want their space,” D’Addario says. “They don’t want to take care of the lawn or shovel snow, and the HOA takes care of all that.” D’Addario also says many homes have primary bedrooms on the first floor, which makes it easier for residents who enjoy first-floor living but want extra rooms to host their kids when they visit.
Detached condos with garages are also available in the Toll Brothers condo community in Valhalla.
Townhomes with covered parking are available by Dickerson Pond in Valeria.

Enjoying Valeria’s amenities
Valeria’s club house was one of the original resort buildings and stays true to its history as a destination for relaxation and catching up with neighbors. “There’s a picture on one of the walls of the resort staff in their tuxedos,” D’Addario says. "Lady Valeria used to host guests there. Everybody who moves there loves it. They have book clubs, screen movies and seasonal parties. You can be as involved as you want to be.” The clubhouse has a pool and gym, and tennis and pickleball courts are next door. Residents can also launch their kayaks on Dickerson Pond or spend the day fishing.
Valeria is known for the scenic Dickerson Pond and the historic club house by the water.
Residents enjoy both tennis and pickleball on the paved courts.
