Country Club is a draw for its convenient location
When Country Club residents leave their manicured subdivisions and venture out into the rest of the St. Joseph area, they find a wealth of amenities at their fingertips. This small community in northwestern Missouri combines suburban tranquility with access to big-box retail stores, restaurants and a respected school system. “A lot of the people that want Country Club want it because that puts them in the Savannah R-III School District,” says Carime Reeves, a local Realtor at Top Line Realty LLC with 10 years of industry experience.
In Country Club, well-maintained homes span multiple eras
Most of Country Club’s houses have some age — some date as far back as the early 20th century. Many of the area’s options were built from the 1940s through the 1970s. Split-levels and ranch-style homes are common, but square footage varies considerably. “They kind of have every home that anybody could want,” Reeves says. “They go from the smaller homes that a first-time home buyer would buy, all the way up to someone starting a family.” A quality that a lot of the houses here share is that they’ve been maintained well over time. Also, many of them come with at least one-fifth of an acre. Homes under 2,000 square feet usually sell for $150,000 to $240,000, while those from 2,000 to 4,000 square feet go for $260,000 to $500,000. Options pushing 5,000 and 6,000 square feet sell for $680,000 to $820,000.
Extracurricular opportunities abound across all school levels
The Country Club area is zoned for the Savannah R-III School District, which carries a B-minus rating on Niche. Residents are close to the B-plus-rated John Glenn Elementary, though the district does allow applications for in-district transfers to one of the other three elementary schools. John Glenn has its own yearbook club. Savannah Middle also carries a B-plus grade and offers an academic team that competes against other schools. Students at the B-minus-rated Savannah High can participate in activities like a debate team and a drama club.
Recreation options range from the Missouri River to the YMCA
Country Club is about 4 miles east of the Missouri River, where anglers can go after catfish, bass and more. Cycling is another popular activity in the area, and the nearby River Bluff Trails Park has multiple miles of paths open to mountain biking and hiking. Hunting is permitted in the Sunbridge Hills Conservation Area. The Campus Family YMCA offers indoor recreation for a fee. Also, true to its name, the Country Club community is home to the St. Joseph Country Club, where there’s an 18-hole golf course.
The Shoppes at North Village is filled with well-known retailers
Reeves says one of the top draws to Country Club, besides the schools, is the proximity to shopping. Residents are within a mile of The Shoppes at North Village, a more than 700,000-square-foot retail center. The Shoppes at North Village includes stores like Target, Sam’s Club, T.J. Maxx, The Home Depot and Petco. The plaza neighbors a Walmart Supercenter. Restaurants in the area include El Maguey N Village, part of a Missouri chain with popular fajitas. Adam’s Bar & Grill, about 9 miles south of Country Club, is also a good place to eat, Reeves says. Adam’s is known for its prime rib.
North Belt Highway is a key artery for transportation
The most important thoroughfare in the area is North Belt Highway, which is lined with The Shoppes at North Village and other businesses. Drivers can take North Belt Highway to Lovers Lane to travel toward downtown St. Joseph, about 6 miles away. The Mosaic Life Care hospital in St. Joseph is also about 6 miles away, using nearby Interstate 29. The Kansas City International Airport is a 40-mile trip on I-29.
Outdoor live music is common in the warmer months
One of the major community events in the area is Parties on the Parkway. A free concert series, Parties on the Parkway features once-a-month performances from June to September along different spots on St. Joseph’s 26-mile parkway system. The concerts are packed, Reeves says. The nearby community of Savannah also has a Concert in the Park series during the summer, at Duncan Park, 9 miles from Country Club.
