Quiet Shelby County retreat on the shores close to Pell City

On the shores of the Coosa River, Cropwell is a community that offers waterfront living at residents' convenience. Homes on the riverfront, farmhouses on lush acreage and affordable manufactured homes provide various home-buying opportunities. Endless boating, fishing and water activities here draw residents and visitors alike. The community is a short drive from Birmingham and even closer to Pell City, meaning residents can live in a quiet country town without being too far from amenities. "Cropwell is a tightknit community centered around the proximity to Logan Martin Lake," says Realtor and resident Maria Price with ARC Realty. Price is well-acquainted with the lake and specializes in selling lakefront homes.

A paradise for boaters, anglers and nature enthusiasts

The neighborhood's main attraction is the unlimited access to Logan Martin Lake and the Coosa River. "Boating and fishing are a huge part of life here. The lake also has lots of community events too," says Price. The lake has 275 miles of shoreline and is a go-to for boating, wakeboarding, jet skiing and fishing. The lake is dotted with various marinas and boat launches to make getting on the water as easy as possible. Logan Martin Lake Park is popular with families because it has a playground, fishing pier, kayak launching point and sandy beach. For hiking and hunting, residents can head to nearby Talladega National Forest. This rich state park also offers camping, horseback riding, fly fishing, swimming and mountain biking. For indoor recreation, there is a YMCA 12 miles away in Pell City.

Colonial revivals, new traditionals, and lakeside estates

Homes on the coves and inlets of Logan Martin Lake are one of the most sought-after aspects of this community. There are luxury waterfront estates here, but there are also ramblers and manufactured homes that let residents live without the price point. Further from the water are Colonial revival homes, neoclassical estates and ranches on acres of farmland or tucked away in the woods. Newly constructed modern farmhouses are available throughout the community, offering updated features. Most homes here range from $235,000 to $630,000, but some estates on the water and houses with over 10 acres can cost between $800,000 and $1.5 million.
