For hiking and hunting, residents can head to nearby Talladega National Forest. This rich state park also offers camping, horseback riding, fly fishing, swimming and mountain biking. For indoor recreation, there is a YMCA 12 miles away in Pell City.

Shelby County Schools offer service-learning programs
Students in the area will attend Shelby County Schools. Vincent Elementary has a B-plus grade on Niche and serves pre-kindergarten to fifth grade. The school is known for offering families an after-school program. Grades six through 12 attend Vincent Middle High School, with an overall B on Niche. The school has a service-learning program where students can get school credit for doing community-based work programs.
