Midcentury homes nearby commercial area in this Minneapolis suburb

Broadway is a neighborhood at the northwest border of Crystal, Minnesota, a suburb northwest of Minneapolis. “Affordability is high there,” says Kath Hammerseng, a Realtor with Sohus Real Estate Group, part of Edina Realty. “Broadway abuts commercial areas along Bass Lake Road and a major apartment complex, so you’ll notice these prices being a little lower than some other parts of Crystal.” The neighborhood comprises mainly midcentury homes across a busy street from a shopping center, and getting around the Twin Cities is simple and convenient. “It’s so easy to head downtown for work or theater or whatever you want to do,” Hammerseng says.

Small ranch style homes and comparatively affordable prices

Broadway features small homes, predominantly ranch-styles, plus some half-stories. These midcentury houses sit on lots with wide, clean lawns with well-spaced mature trees. Driveways and detached garages are typical features of this area. Interior streets tend not to have sidewalks. Broadway is close to busy roads like Bass Lake Road and County Road 81, the latter of which is one of the unofficial dividing lines for home prices in the Twin Cities area. “When you’re on the west side of 81 but a little farther north, those prices will drag a little,” Hammerseng says. Prices mostly range from $250,000 to $360,000. One street, Oregon Court, features more recent New Traditional homes, which can cost around $500,000. The neighborhood is quite close to the Crystal Airport. However, since it is a general aviation airport, there isn’t much activity, and noise is rarely an issue. “There’s a lot of hangers there that people use as barndominiums instead of keeping planes,” Hammerseng says. “It’s not a real active airport.”
