Midcentury homes and its namesake trees in Crystal’s Forest neighborhood
Tall trees are indeed part of the fabric of Forest, a central neighborhood in Crystal, Minnesota, a suburb of Minneapolis just west of busy State Highway 100. But the mature growth is spread out enough to give this neighborhood of small, mostly midcentury houses on well-kept lots a spacious, open feeling. “I love Forest,” says Kath Hammerseng, a Realtor with Sohus Real Estate Group, part of Edina Realty. “It’s kind of this sweet little spot in the middle of Crystal.” Almost entirely residential, the neighborhood is home to quiet streets and numerous parks, though shopping and dining options are within a few miles, and downtown Minneapolis is a short drive away. “People really like it here,” Hammerseng says.

Modest midcentury homes and quiet residential streets
Forest homes are usually midcentury ranch-style homes and half-stories with well-maintained lawns. Mature trees provide shade and atmosphere. Prices range from $245,000 to $475,000. Many properties feature detached garages and driveways, and while there aren’t many sidewalks, the streets tend to be quiet. “Forest is one of those areas that are a bit isolated and don’t have much through traffic,” Hammerseng says. Forest, like many Crystal neighborhoods, does not have a homeowner’s association. “These neighborhoods were built at a time when those were not the jam,” Hammerseng says.
