Midcentury homes and convenient location near Minneapolis
Like most Crystal neighborhoods, Welcome Park has a collection of midcentury homes. But true to its name, the small suburban community near the Twin Cities has two popular city parks. Grogran Park is a large expanse home to the Crystal Community Center, which hosts a seasonal farmers market in the warmer months, while its namesake park is on the eastern side. “It’s centrally located,” says Brent Peterson, a Realtor with Re/Max Results. “The convenience may be the biggest draw.” The modest, older homes make the area relatively affordable, too. “It’s a great price point,” Peterson says.
The Welcome Park neighborhood is conveniently located only minutes away from downtown Minneapolis.

Ranch-style homes and a comfortable, expansive feeling
Ranch-style homes are a common design in Welcome Park and were mostly built in the post-war midcentury era. “There are all these ramblers,” Peterson says. “You’ll see the occasional two-story thrown in there.” Half-stories are another common style. The well-spaced but mature trees and tidy lawns create a comfortable and expansive feeling. Prices range from $210,000 to $400,000 for most homes, and the relative affordability makes Welcome Park a diverse community; Peterson has worked with buyers ranging from first-time homeowners to empty nesters seeking to downsize.
The neighborhood does have some larger, newer builds, primarily along Zane Avenue, which can cost up to the low $500,000s. There is also a collection of townhomes around Adair Avenue near Grogan Park, which can cost between $400,000 and $440,000.
Classic ranch-style homes are common in the Welcome Park neighborhood.
Some lots in Welcome Park have been rebuilt with newer craftsman-style homes.

Central location makes getting around the Twin Cities easy
Welcome Park’s central location makes it easy to get around. Multiple significant thoroughfares run nearby. “County Road 81 cuts right through Crystal,” Peterson says. Minnesota State Highway 100 connects Crystal to the rest of the Twin Cities, including downtown Minneapolis, about 9 miles away. The Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport is 22 miles away, and North Memorial Health’s Robbinsdale Hospital is under 4 miles southeast. There are bus routes along major streets, and the through roads in the neighborhood are good for walking and biking. A planned light rail expansion into Crystal is expected to begin service in 2030.
Crystal Cove Aquatic Center is a revamped hub of summer fun
Welcome Park, the namesake green space, has several ball fields and a playground. Grogan Park is home to a multitude of recreation opportunities. “There’s a BMX and skateboard park there,” Peterson says. Grogan Park also houses the Crystal Community Center, fields used for Little League games and the Crystal Cove Aquatic Center. “They revamped the aquatic center. It’s quite a draw,” Peterson says. “If you have kids who want a break in the summer, they have a fabulous setup there that’s very well done. Slides, pools, diving boards, the whole array.”
Welcome Park features a new playground that is fun for all ages.

SteveO’s and Big Louie’s are go-to neighborhood spots
While primarily residential, there are pockets of shopping and dining nearby. Two bars on Broadway are go-to spots. “Big Louie’s is one of the staples,” Peterson says. “That’s a mom-and-pop restaurant. SteveO’s Bar and Grill is super popular, too.” Milton’s is a busy spot serving classic American fare. The Crystal Shopping Center, with a Target, chain stores and restaurants, is under 2 miles away. Almsted’s Fresh Market is a neighborhood grocer on 42nd Avenue and Douglas Drive, while Aldi is close to the shopping center.
Welcome Park residents enjoy meeting at SteveOs Bar and Grill for a meal, drinks, and games.
Target is a local big-box option for Welcome Park residents and anchors the Crystal Shopping Center.
