Winnetka Hills offers a middle ground in home pricing
Near the premium homes of Golden Valley in the comparatively modest Crystal, Winnetka Hills is known as a blend of the two communities. “It’s got a higher price point than most of Crystal,” says Cristina Edelstein-Skurat, a Realtor with Kerby & Cristina Real Estate Experts. “But it’s still more affordable than most of the Twin Cities.” The location also provides residents easy access to the surrounding metro area and various parks, lakes and other outdoor opportunities. Nearby shopping and dining cement Winnetka Hills’ reputation for easy access to many amenities.

The neighborhood has tree-lined streets and mid-20th-century homes
Surrounded by the shade of mature trees on rectangular lots, the midcentury homes in Winnetka Hills tend to be well-maintained, frequently featuring wood and brick exteriors. Lots often reach a quarter-acre or more, offering more privacy and elbow room than homeowners can get elsewhere. “It’s not quite as tight as you’ll see closer to Minneapolis,” says Edelstein-Skurat, who’s worked in the area since 2011. Architectural styles are typical for the era when they were built, and the neighborhood has mostly bi-level, split-level and ranch style homes. Depending on size and renovations, prices are typically between $240,000 and $520,000. “It’s a very affordable place for a starter home,” says Edelstein.

The Civic Center Hy-Vee covers groceries, and nearby shopping options are available in Winnetka Commons or the Golden Valley Townsquare. Edelstein-Skurat says the sheer variety of restaurants is one of the area’s biggest strengths, emphasizing its multicultural inspirations. “It’s a very diverse community,” she says. “And that means a very diverse restaurant scene.” Nong’s offers traditional Thai food with modern twists, including Sriracha fried rice and deep-fried cheesecake rolls. La Michoacana Rose brings Mexican flavors to its frozen desserts and snacks, with everything from churro sundaes to mango sorbet with Tajin.
