A small city south of Fort Rucker
Daleville is a small city in southeastern Alabama’s Wiregrass region known as the “City of Possibilities” and the “Gateway to Fort Rucker,” a U.S. Army post. It’s the location that attracts most homebuyers. “Daleville is central to Enterprise, Dothan and Ozark, and it is one of the main gates to Fort Rucker, which is a draw for military families and civilians working there,” says Kayla Tice, an eXp Realtor with several years of experience. Daleville, home to nearly 5,000 residents, also offers proximity to amenities like the Army Aviation Museum and Lake Tholocco. “It’s significantly smaller than Enterprise and Dothan, but there’s been talk about growth,” says Alexandra Mimoso, a Coldwell Banker Realtor and Wiregrass area native.
Competitively priced single-family and townhomes
Homes come in a variety of classic 20th and 21st century styles, from brick and siding-clad ranch-style homes and split-levels to Colonial Revivals and New Traditionals. Front-facing, attached garages are common, as are broad, neatly trimmed front lawns. Many backyards end in thick bands of oak, sycamore and longleaf pine trees. Single-family home prices start under $100,000 and rise to more than $600,000. Townhomes typically sell for between $45,000 and $100,000. The Choctawhatchee River and creeks in the area are prone to flooding.
Daleville High partners with three area colleges for dual enrollment
The Daleville City Schools district earns a C-plus from Niche. It serves about 1,200 students across three schools: B-minus-rated Windham Elementary, C-rated Daleville Middle and C-plus-rated Daleville High. The high school offers AP courses in English, history, biology and chemistry. Dual enrollment courses at Enterprise State Community College, Wallace Community College and Troy University’s Dothan campus are also available. All three post-secondary schools are within about 20 miles of most homes.
City parks, Lake Tholocco and other recreational amenities nearby
Baseball and softball fields, a dog park and a skatepark are scattered around central Daleville. R.A. Culpepper Municipal Park, just south of center, has a playground and sports fields. It also serves as the Dale County Fairgrounds. The United States Army Aviation Museum, near the Fort Rucker Visitor Center, has one of the largest helicopter collections in the world, as well as an expansive research library. The Lake Tholocco area, north of Fort Rucker, offers hiking, biking, boating and more. Public fishing piers and boat launches are spaced around the nearly 650-acre lake, close to sandy, swimmable beaches with picnic areas. The public 27-hole course at Silver Springs Golf Club is within 5 miles of most homes. Other regional attractions, including Highland Oaks Golf Course, part of Alabama’s Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, and the Wiregrass Museum of Art, are within about 25 miles of Daleville.
Local eateries and limited shopping options in Daleville
“There’s not a ton for shopping, but Daleville does have a few very good, very popular local restaurants that have been around for a very long time,” Mimoso says. McLin’s, which has been around since the ‘60s, is a homestyle American steakhouse. It’s on Daleville Avenue, close to other dining options, like Primo’s Grill & Deli, Chopper’s Ol’ School BBQ and Don’t Stay Hungry, a Puerto Rican spot. Fast-food chains and banks are scattered along main roads between auto shops, beauty parlors and discount retailers like Dollar General, DG Market and Grocery Outlet. The Fort Rucker Commissary and Exchange are within 2 miles of most homes.
