There are so many places to explore throughout the Bishop Arts District. Locals can check out local and national music talent at The Kessler Theater, or shop at an eclectic “man cave” of antique industrial tools, coins and toys while enjoying a beer at DFW M’Antiques.Other popular pastimes include catching a cult classic at the Texas Theatre, where Lee Harvey Oswald was arrested after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Instagrammers delight in murals throughout the neighborhood, such as the Love Equation Wall on Madison Avenue.

Spend a day on the river at Trammell Crow Park
Around 4 miles north of Bishop Arts District, Trammell Crow Park sits next to the Sylvan Avenue Bridge within the grassy oasis of the Trinity River greenbelt. Trammell Crow parkgoers can use the park’s boat launch and trailer parking to enjoy a day of canoeing or kayaking on the river.Trammell Crow Park features more than 6 miles of walking trails along the Trinity Skyline and Trinity Levee Top Loop trails, which connect with other trails coursing through the city. Echoing the creative spirit of the Bishop Arts District, Trammell Crow Park is dotted with whimsical stone cow sculptures and park benches. Offering sweeping vistas of the distant Dallas skyline, Trammell Crow Park is also a favorite place for locals to watch Fourth of July fireworks or fly kites in the wide-open fields.
Celebrate Bastille Day on North Bishop Avenue
In honor of the Bishop Arts District’s historical roots in the French colony La Réunion that settled here in the 1850s, the community celebrates Bastille Day every July 14th. North Bishop Avenue is closed to through traffic, and French music plays while neighbors and tourists enjoy French food and shop at local vendors’ booths. In February, residents can run in the annual Dash for the Beads 5K Race, which coincides with the Go Oak Cliff Mardi Gras Parade, another event of French origin.
Dallas Independent School District schools
Public schools are part of the Dallas Independent School District. Students may attend John F. Peeler Elementary for prekindergarten through fifth grade before moving on to Hector P. Garcia Middle School. Both schools score C Niche grades. Sunset High School, which scores a C-plus Niche grade, offers some 50 extracurricular clubs that cover interests ranging from meditation and origami to Star Wars and spicy food.

Connecting to attractions and employment outside the neighborhood is made possible by the network of nearby Interstate 35 and access to the Dallas Area Rapid Transit streetcar, light rail and bus systems.
