Lake Cliff
Historic homes and scenic views
The lake’s scenic shores attracted wealthy and prominent Dallas citizens. In 1929, Lake Cliff Tower, then an opulent hotel, was built just across busy Colorado Boulevard. Many of those mansions have been divided into apartments and the Tower is now luxury condominiums. Condo owners have access to amenities such as concierge services and wine lockers. A second wave of homebuilding happened post-WWII when the lake’s scenic shores attracted wealthy Dallas citizens. Architectural styles from the 1920s through the 1950s include Queen Anne, Craftsman and Tudor. Although there are empty lots in the neighborhood, houses standing from previous decades showcase sturdy construction. Home prices in the area range from around $375,000 for a two-bedroom cottage to about $870,000 for a newly built Craftsman-style home.Specialized academics and academies
Children in the community may begin school at James Bowie Elementary, which holds a B rating from Niche and has a 14-1 student-teacher ratio. Hector P. Garcia Middle School has a C rating and a 13-1 student-teacher ratio. W. H. Adamson High has a C-plus rating and a 15-1 student-teacher ratio. The high school provides students with a slate of special programs, including finance and health service academies, an automotive technology institute and a soon-to-come international baccalaureate program.Parks, trails and disc golf
Featuring several large parks, Lake Cliff Park covers more than 44 acres of the neighborhood where the basin once hosted the amusement park. Amid the trails that line the lake is Rose Garden Pavilion, a circa-1940s stone shelter restored in 2009 that offers a shady respite. Oak Cliff Founders Park provides trails, group yoga and disc golf. Trinity Overlook Park offers residents a picturesque city skyline. The Trinity Skyline Trail follows the river through the city for almost 5 miles.Thrifty shops and trendy eaters
Traveling across Beckley Road, residents can venture into the neighboring Bishop Arts District to check out its array of specialty boutiques and clothing stores. Thrifty shoppers can add to their treasure chests by visiting the second-hand stores near Jefferson and 10th. Down the block, grocery shoppers can cross items off their lists at Fiesta Mart. The Bishop Arts District also offers lots of trendy eateries and nightlife venues. But there are options closer to home. Dallas Tortilla and Tamale provides locals with Mexican cuisine. The Valentino Restaurant serves both eat-in and take-out Chinese food.A big zoo and a bigger fair
Lake Cliff residents are close enough to walk to the Dallas Zoo, which has been open since 1888 and is home to more than 2,000 animals. It's open every day of the year except Christmas, so there are plenty of opportunities to see lions, hippos and elephants and even feed a friendly giraffe. In September, about 2.5 million are in attendance at the nearby Texas State Fair, said to be the biggest in the nation.Getting here and there from Lake Cliff
Lake Cliff is bordered to the east by N. Zang Boulevard and to the west by Interstate 35, and Jefferson Boulevard runs through the neighborhood, all of which provide residents of Lake Cliff with a short 2-mile commute across the Trinity River to downtown and access to other Dallas districts. It’s a 19-mile drive to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport. There are DART transit stops throughout the community, however, Lake Cliff, like most of Dallas, is a car-dependent neighborhood.
