Dalton Gardens offers semirural living north of Coeur d’Alene

Dalton Gardens is a semirural community just north of Coeur d’Alene. With a population of around 2,400, it offers plenty of open space, natural beauty and nearby outdoor recreation. It sits just west of Lake Hayden, at the foot of the Bitterroot Mountains and its many national parks. Homes on spacious lots are spread out along tree-lined streets just a few miles from urban amenities, buzzy coffee shops and local eateries in Coeur d’Alene. “It’s a small pocket of homes that are all on an acre of land. It’s all single-family homes. No commercial, no townhomes or apartments,” says Realtor Michaela Corcoran-Hall of The Experience Northwest, who has more than two decades of experience in the area. “You can have horses and farm animals on your property.”

Country-style homes with gardens and views of the mountains

Single-family homes are tucked away among mature pines and wide, grassy setbacks. Single-level ranch-style homes, cottages, high-end properties and custom-built farmhouses are a common sight here, most of which were built in the last 40 years. Properties often span an acre or more, with open lawns, vegetable gardens and small orchards creating a country ambiance just minutes from town. “There’s no HOA. You can build almost anything you want on your property,” Corcoran-Hall says. Sight lines are long, offering glimpses of forested slopes and mountains along the eastern horizon. Wildlife is abundant, and it’s not unusual to spot deer, wild turkeys and a variety of birds on a morning walk. Prices range from around $650,000 to $2 million, depending on size, age and acreage.

Trails, lakes and forests just steps from home

Dalton Gardens sits at the base of Canfield Mountain, and just a few miles from local lakes and sprawling national parks. “You’re surrounded by parks. It’s just a few minutes to Hayden Lake and very close to hiking at Canfield Mountain,” Corcoran-Hall says. The Canfield Mountain Natural Area, directly adjacent to Dalton Gardens, offers miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding. Trails wind through pine forests, over rocky ridges and up to viewpoints with sweeping views of Coeur d’Alene Lake. Just a short drive away, Coeur d’Alene Lake and Lake Hayden offer plenty of opportunities for boating, kayaking, fishing and swimming. The scenic Centennial Trail, which stretches for 23 miles from the Idaho-Washington border all the way to the east side of Coeur d’Alene Lake, is perfect for cyclists, runners, and walkers seeking beautiful lake and river views.
