Danville, the county seat of Montour County
Sitting along a bend in the Susquehanna River, Danville is a cozy community of about 4,000 residents and the seat of Montour County. It’s home to Geisinger Medical Center, which employs over 10,000 people, and is 9 miles from Bloomsburg, where students attend Commonwealth University – Bloomsburg. “Montour County has it all,” says resident Van Wagner. “Outdoor recreation, nightlife in town, top-level athletics from our local schools, active church, congregations, arts and music throughout the region.”

Danville has mostly single-family homes, as well as a few townhouses and condos mixed in. It’s a renter-friendly area, with just over half of residents renting their homes. Danville Middle School gets an A-minus grade from Niche, and Danville Area High School receives a B-plus. Danville Area High School has four in-person vocational programs: Agriculture & Related Sciences, Agricultural Mechanization, Diversified Occupations and Entrepreneurship.

The Danville Area Community Center serves residents with a pool, gym, day camps and fitness classes. Danville’s Memorial Park honors the town’s veterans with monuments and hosts an annual summer concert series. Montgomery Park is a waterfront green space along the Susquehanna River where residents go to watch sunrises and sunsets. The town has two parks with baseball fields: F.Q. Hartman Recreation Area and Washies Baseball and Softball Complex. Hess Loop Trail is a nearly 4-mile wooded path in the Susquehanna Greenway that features a covered bridge over a creek and overlaps with the J. Manley Robbins Trail, a 1-mile stretch that was the country’s very first rail trail. “I love the outdoor opportunities presented by our region,” Wagner says.
Restaurant options include diners and breweries
Residents can grocery shop at Weis Markets and Giant. There are plenty of dining options in town, including Perkins, a diner-style breakfast chain, and LT Evans Eatery & Drafthouse, a casual American restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. One popular spot is Old Forge Brewing Company, a cozy brewpub with burgers and other bites. Fast-food options include Taco Bell, Dunkin’ and Wendy’s.

Danville is a car-dependent community 9 miles west of Bloomsburg. With Geisinger Medical Center located in Danville, residents have convenient access to medical resources.
