Music venues meet art galleries, vintage shops and distinct dining
Downtown is well-known for its vibrant shopping and dining scene. Evenings and weekends are especially busy, as people bustle between bars, breweries, cafés and shops. Barrel House has a low-key tavern vibe, where patrons can share a drink and enjoy pub fare. Duck City Bistro's menu is an eclectic fusion of international and regional fare served in a classy, candle-lit atmosphere. Abernathy's sells vintage clothing, and Ragged Records has an extensive vinyl collection. Central Grocery and Oriental Food Grocery Store are nearby options for groceries. Open on Saturdays and Sundays year-round, the Freight House Farmers Market sells fresh produce and artisanal goods.
Arts and culture also thrive. The Figge Art Museum is a staple in the Quad Cities region, housing a vast collection of Haitian, Colonial Mexican and Midwestern art. Realtor Alex Skeen of eXp Realty says the Adler Theater is a particular favorite for Broadway shows and celebrity appearances. "They have a bunch of live shows, like when comedians come into town, as well as smaller music concerts," he says. "It's a historic place as well; it's been around for as long as downtown Davenport has been here." Venues like Raccoon Motel and Redstone Room are well-loved, hole-in-the-wall concert venues.

Historic two-story homes dominate a renter-friendly neighborhood
The neighborhood primarily has single-family homes. Many are purchased by buyers who rent them out, so over 90% of the neighborhood's full-time residents are renters. Broad, multilane roads can either have tightly packed lots with minimal greenery or lots with a bit of breathing room between neighbors. Bushy shrubs and mature trees add privacy to small grassy lawns. Back alleys often accommodate parking needs, but street parking is also permitted. Two-story houses with Victorian, American Foursquare and Craftsman architecture from the 1900s are common. Prices usually range between $20,000 and $77,000, depending on the home's condition. Duplexes and quadplexes typically sell between $80,000 and $220,000.

Summer concerts and baseball games along the Mississippi River
Many expansive parks run along the river. LeClaire Park is home to a bandshell music pavilion, a popular spot for outdoor concerts and the annual Red, White and Boom Independence Day fireworks. "There's an enormous amount of green space to sit with family and friends, and, even if there's not an event going on, you can come down and walk along the river," Skeen says. The park's riverfront trail connects with the 250-acre Centennial Park, which has a playground, a splash pad, a dog park and athletic fields for rugby. Between the two parks is Modern Woodmen Park, a historic baseball stadium where the Quad Cities River Bandits play.
According to First Street, downtown has a major risk from flooding. The area is susceptible to flooding from the Mississippi River, which can cause infrastructure damage and lead to road closures. Flood insurance is recommended for downtown homeowners and renters.

Downtown Davenport is the hub for parades, festivals and holiday cheer
Throughout the year, Downtown Davenport hosts holiday celebrations, Quad City races and arts festivals, like Alternating Currents and the Mississippi Valley Blues Festival. Rock Island and Davenport work together to host the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade, which crosses from one side of the Mississippi River to the other. Deck the Downtowns kicks off winter with a cookie crawl and a holiday pickle hunt. Businesses compete to display the most festive window decorations. During the Quad City Arts Festival of Trees, giant helium balloons parade around downtown. The festival also offers pictures with Santa, live performances, a massive train display and a gingerbread village competition. In January, people brave the cold weather to see intricate ice sculptures lit up with LEDs during Icestravaganza.
Citibus Transit and West River Drive connect the city
Sidewalks make the community moderately walkable, but residents are car-dependent overall. Some main roads, like West Third and Fourth streets, only allow one-way traffic, while West Second Street and West River Drive accommodate two-way traffic. The robust Citibus Transit system lines many roads with bus routes. West River Drive becomes Highway 67, a major commuter highway. The Centennial and Arsenal bridges take drivers across state lines to Rock Island, Illinois. The Davenport Municipal Airport is about 8 miles north, and the Quad Cities International Airport is roughly 9 miles away.
Central High offers job shadowing to juniors and seniors
