The first botanical park west of the Mississippi River
Vander Veer Botanical Park is “one of the oldest and arguably the most storied parks in Davenport,” says Becca Niles, Senior Administrative Service Manager for Parks in Davenport. “The park itself is 33 acres and is a popular location for weddings, community events and special events hosted by the Parks Department.” The Conservatory at the park hosts Gardens Under Glass year-round. Rotating exhibits change with the seasons, with azaleas, lilies, daisies and fuchsia in the spring, followed by summer tropicals. “Another favorite spot in the park is the Grand Allee. It’s an almost one-mile walkway of trees and gardens that lead to the Stone Fountain, which is lit up at night with multi-colored lights. Its design is based on the Grand Allee in Paris.”
