Two of the four Quad Cities
Outer Davenport/Bettendorf is a region that encircles Davenport and Bettendorf, two of the Quad Cities. This large area is mainly comprised of farmland, industrial spaces and single-family homes. But homeowners need not worry about the sounds or smells of the industrial sector: it “generally doesn’t affect day-to-day life, other than bring jobs to the area,” says Sally Johnson, RE/MAX real estate agent with 12 years of experience. It is quite possible to find a lot or a home away from Manatt’s Asphalt Plant, Linwood Mining & Minerals Corporation, Davenport Municipal Airport or any of the industrial goings-on. Outer Davenport/Bettendorf locals enjoy the ability to spread out, choose their own schools and drive into the Quad Cities area.

Finally, students may attend West High School in Davenport, which also earns a C-plus. “Students can choose where they go to school – that’s Iowa state law,” says Johnson. “The high schools all have open enrollment. They have different concentrations and students can choose their high school based on their interests.” West High School, for example, has a Career and Technical Academy, which addresses topics such as finance, manufacturing and health care. “If a student is interested in a class that their high school doesn’t offer, they can hop on a bus to one of the other high schools for their desired class and return in time for the next period,” says Johnson. Alternatively, prekindergarten through Grade 12 students may also attend Rivermont Collegiate, rated A-plus overall and the No. 2 Best Private High School in Iowa by Niche.
