West End
Suburban Neighborhood in Davenport, Iowa
Scott County 52802, 52804
Midcentury properties outside of downtown Davenport
Tight city streets are lined with compact sidewalks shaded by a scattering of trees, adding privacy for some properties. A collection of Craftsman homes with cross-gabled roofs, brick ranch homes and Stick properties with hipped roofs are perched on narrow lots. Home prices are lower than the national average, ranging from $50,000 for an empty lot to about $190,000 for a three-bedroom raised ranch. “It is still a seller’s market because inventory is lacking. Some properties closer to the river have a high risk for flooding, and the neighborhood itself has an Active Sound Score of 76 out of 100. Houses that are three-bedroom and two-bathrooms close to move-in ready are in high demand, and they sell almost immediately no matter where they are. Typically, the east end of Davenport moves faster than the West End, though,” Gober says.Outdoorsy lifestyle in the West End
Outdoor recreation abounds in the West End, and its largest park is Credit Island Park, which spans 450 acres in the Mississippi River. Parkgoers can enjoy a round of disc golf at the 18-hole course, get boat access to the Mississippi or stroll through its nature trails. Credit Island is historic as it was once a fur trading post for Native Americans and is the site of one of the westernmost battles in the War of 1812. On a smaller scale, Van Buren Park is a 3-acre neighborhood park with a popular playground and community shelter. Davenport features a section nearly 12 miles along the Mississippi River Trail, which spans 3000 miles parallel to the river. Bikers and hikers can access the Davenport section of the expansive pathway at LeClaire Park in downtown Davenport. Roosevelt Community Center provides an indoor recreation center for neighbors, with an indoor weight room, multiple community rooms and a computer lab.School days in the Davenport Community School District
West End students are zoned for the Davenport Community School District, which scores a B-minus on Niche and serves almost 14,500 students. One potential school path is Hayes Elementary, for kindergarten through 6th Grade and Smart Intermediate, both earning a C. Students earn their diploma from West High School, which earns a C-plus. The Job Shadowing Program allows eligible juniors and seniors to spend 2 to 4 hours a week shadowing an approved career field’s day-to-day work.Nearby museum and minor league baseball
Neighbors can visit a handful of nearby museums, including the Putnam Museum and Science Center, which offers exhibits in science and history and has its own education center. The museum is home to the Giant Screen Theater, the largest movie screen in the entire Quad Cities, five stories tall. The theater shows documentaries, classic films and new features. In the summer, residents can quickly drive to Modern Woodmen Park, home to the Quad Cities Bandits, the High-A Affiliate of the Kansas City Royals, for a night at the ballpark.Hop on board the CitiBus
Davenport offers the CitiBus for public transportation throughout the city. The Orange and Teal Lines directly service the area. West River Drive in the neighborhood connects the region to Interstate 280, an auxiliary highway that connects the Quad Cities of Illinois and Iowa. West End is about 12 miles from Quad Cities International Airport in Illinois. The airport offers Allegiant, American Airlines, Delta, and United Airlines flights.Shopping at the NorthPark Mall
Residents can pick up groceries from the Hy-Vee on Rockingham Road, West End, just south of the NorthPark Mall. A community staple since 1973, the mall has around 160 retailers, from fashion stores like American Eagle Outfitters to chain restaurants like Olive Garden. There are multiple locally owned spots for a bite to eat as well, as locals head to California Pho, which serves Vietnamese cuisine, or Frackies Burgers, Bites and Brews, a local bar with late-night hours.
