Davenport neighborhood on the Mississippi with a rich history
Along the shores of the Mississippi River just over the Iowa and Illinois state line, West End’s history dates to the War of 1812, with two battles happening on its Credit Island. Today, the neighborhood features homes priced less than the national average with easy proximity to downtown Davenport but offering many amenities right in the neighborhood. “West End provides a chance to be near outdoor activity,” says Brody Gober, a Realtor with Keller Williams Greater Quad Cities. “It offers multiple parks, hiking and biking trails, and water access to the Mississippi or nearby small lakes.”
Just to the north, West End residents can enjoy the Duck Creek Trail.

Midcentury properties outside of downtown Davenport
Tight city streets are lined with compact sidewalks shaded by a scattering of trees, adding privacy for some properties. A collection of Craftsman homes with cross-gabled roofs, brick ranch homes and Stick properties with hipped roofs are perched on narrow lots. Home prices are lower than the national average, ranging from $50,000 for an empty lot to about $190,000 for a three-bedroom raised ranch. “It is still a seller’s market because inventory is lacking. Some properties closer to the river have a high risk for flooding, and the neighborhood itself has an Active Sound Score of 76 out of 100. Houses that are three-bedroom and two-bathrooms close to move-in ready are in high demand, and they sell almost immediately no matter where they are. Typically, the east end of Davenport moves faster than the West End, though,” Gober says.

Outdoorsy lifestyle in the West End
Outdoor recreation abounds in the West End, and its largest park is Credit Island Park, which spans 450 acres in the Mississippi River. Parkgoers can enjoy a round of disc golf at the 18-hole course, get boat access to the Mississippi or stroll through its nature trails. Credit Island is historic as it was once a fur trading post for Native Americans and is the site of one of the westernmost battles in the War of 1812. On a smaller scale, Van Buren Park is a 3-acre neighborhood park with a popular playground and community shelter. Davenport features a section nearly 12 miles along the Mississippi River Trail, which spans 3000 miles parallel to the river. Bikers and hikers can access the Davenport section of the expansive pathway at LeClaire Park in downtown Davenport.
