Racing Hall of Fame tells the story of stock car racing
Dawson County’s racing history runs deep, as the early NASCAR players were born in the region. Residents and visitors alike can learn more about the story of stock car racing at the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame. The museum includes racing memorabilia and exhibits that tell the stories of Hall of Fame honorees that have impacted racing in Georgia. Every fall, the community comes together for the annual Mountain Moonshine Festival and Car Show to celebrate the history of moonshining during Prohibition and how it led to the birth of NASCAR. Proceeds from the event are donated to the nonprofit Kare For Kids, which then uses the funds to purchase clothes, school supplies and holiday gifts for children in Dawson County. The festival is hosted at the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame and Main Street Park.
