Northern Hills

Winding roads and ranch-style homes
North of downtown Dayton, Northern Hills is mostly composed of winding roads of single-family houses. Along the streets, residents can stroll past Little Free Libraries and tall maple trees. Large lots feature driveways and garden beds with trimmed shrubs. The architecture mostly consists of 1950s and 1960s ranch-style homes in a variety of brick and vinyl sidings, some with front porches. “There’s a mixture of small to medium-sized homes,” says Miranda Biedenharn who has 15 years of experience in the area and works with Comey & Shepherd REALTORS. In contrast to the rest of the neighborhood, the New England Woods subdivision offers larger houses built in the 1990s that often come in a Traditional style. Sales prices range from $83,000 for a ranch-style cottage to $361,000 for a four-bedroom Traditional home in the New England Woods subdivision.Laidback eats in Northern Hills

Students in the neighborhood go to the Dayton Public School District, which earns a C-minus grade according to Niche. “The city of Dayton schools is a big difference between a neighborhood versus a closeby suburb like Northridge,” Biedenharn says. Schools include Belle Haven Elementary School, Edwin Joel Brown Middle School and Meadowdale Career Technology Center for high school. All three schools have C-minus grades on Niche. The high school offers unique programs from Digital Design to Gaming Technologies.
Outdoor activities for the whole family
At Hickorydale Park, residents can bring their kids to run around on the playground, while relaxing on benches shaded by mature pine trees. The park also features a basketball court ideal for pick-up games. Madison Park has a walking path next to Wolf Creek for a relaxing atmosphere, a playground and a swing set for children, plus picnic shelters. At Miami Valley Golf Club, golfers can practice on an 18-hole course designed by Donald Ross or use their membership to swim in the pool.5 miles to downtown Dayton
