Quiet Waters Elementary, for example, has a B-minus overall grade and offers onsite tutoring for students who need it. Lyons Creek Middle School achieves a solid B with a 21-to-1 student-teacher ratio. Monarch High School gets a B-plus and has over 2,400 students in grades nine through 12. The community can use part of the school’s building as a hurricane shelter.A park along the canal
At the northern end of Hillsboro Ranches is Hillsboro Canal, and the Villages of Hillsboro Park backs up to the water and has a boat ramp where residents can launch small watercraft. The park is about 10 acres with two picnic pavilions, a playground shaded by beautifully mature oak trees, two basketball courts, tennis courts, a place to play sand volleyball and a walking/jogging trail. Parking access is off 6th Street, not far from Powerline Road. A couple miles south on Powerline Road will lead to Quiet Waters Park and the Splash Adventure Water Park. This hot-weather favorite is open from March through September. The water park features slides, tunnels, water curtains and a giant bucket that fills and empties onto the playground below. Quiet Waters Park has 7 miles of trails, disc golf, camping and a dog park.Deerfield Mall
With over 70 stores, Deerfield Mall is a large strip shopping center on Hillsboro Boulevard. A Publix grocery store is at one end, and a YouFit gym is at the other. The gym is open at 5:00 a.m. weekday mornings and has indoor pickleball courts, group fitness classes and childcare. Since 1997, Fratelli’s Pizza, Pasta & Vino has served Italian favorites from their place at Deerfield Mall. They can accommodate a family meal out or large gatherings. Catty-cornered from the mall is Target, with a grocery and optical section.Easy hop onto Florida’s Turnpike
Hillsboro Ranches is situated next to the southern end of Florida’s Turnpike. The 300-mile toll road ends 30 miles to the south when it intersects with Interstate 95 in the Miami Gardens area. Commuters can take the additional 16 miles to downtown Miami on I-95. Residents can commute via public transit on Broward County Transit bus lines. Those who prefer to ride the rails while commuting are 3 miles from the Deerfield Beach Tri-Rail station. The closest major airport is Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport 23 miles away.
