A quiet Delran suburb

Less than 5 miles from the confluence of the Delaware River and Rancocas Creek, Swedes Run is a quiet neighborhood in Delran named after a 12-mile-long river that flows through the community. "Delran is a great town with smaller and more affordable homes than Moorestown," says Melissa Young, a real estate salesperson with Compass New Jersey, LLC, who has nearly 30 years of experience in the industry. "It doesn't have that small-town feel, but it still has great schools, is close to Philadelphia's Center City and is surrounded by green spaces." Paired with its proximity to one of the East Coast's largest cities just 15 miles away, Swedes Run offers residents an easy-going suburban South Jersey lifestyle with access to waterfront recreation.

Green spaces around Swedes Run

Swedes Run residents are surrounded by several parks and recreational facilities. Some residents are within walking distance of Conrow Road Park, which features a soccer field and a large playground. Down the road, Tenby Chase Swim and Sports Club offers a lively atmosphere with amenities like a sand volleyball court, turf field, basketball courts and a playground, plus seasonal events like movie nights and float nights at the pool. Delran Community Park, the township's largest recreational space, features a turf baseball complex and Jake's Place, an all-inclusive playground for those with disabilities. The grounds host community events throughout the year, such as Delran Night Out, when food trucks line the block, live music echoes through the field and fireworks light up the night sky. Swedes Run flows to Swedes Lake, attracting anglers 3 miles north of the neighborhood. Across the street, the Dredge Harbor Boat Center hugs the Delaware River's banks. The marina has year-round storage, boat and jet ski ramps, and a members-only waterfront restaurant and bar. Riverside Marina sits on the harbor's east side near the entrance to Amico Island Park. This small island features 55 acres of undisturbed wetlands and forests that offer scenic walking trails, shaded fishing spots and scenic riverfront views. The nearby Rancocas Creek provides additional kayaking, canoeing, and wildlife-watching opportunities.

20th-century single-family homes

Swedes Run's curvilinear streets lead past a mix of 20th-century single-family homes. Quiet suburban roads give way to Colonial Revivals, split-levels and ranch-style homes. Shaded sidewalks cater to dog walkers, cyclists and joggers. One-to-two-car attached garages are standard amenities, including fenced-in backyards with enough room for patios and playgrounds or an in-ground pool. "Most properties boast 1,200 to 2,400 square feet," Young says. Home prices typically range from the upper-$300,000s to the mid-$600,000s, depending on size and interior updates. Swedes Run earns a CAP Index of 1 out of 10, compared to the national average of 4.

Shopping and dining on Route 130

Swedes Run residents are about 2 miles from U.S. Route 130, the community's central commercial hub. Several shopping centers, big-box stores, grocers and small businesses line both sides of the street. Hartford Corners is the largest shopping plaza with national retailers like ShopRite and local establishments such as Dooney's Pub, an Irish-themed sports bar with 50-plus televisions and a rotating craft beer list. Down the road, Route 130 Diner Restaurant is a retro-themed eatery open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. A long menu lists classic American fare that range from casual hoagies to homemade dinner-style pork chops. Three miles south, locally owned cafes line Moorestown's Main Street. "We have one of the nicer Main Streets in the area, so it's common for residents in neighboring towns to frequent Moorestown," Young says. Additional box stores surround Moorestown Mall, 2 miles farther, while the nearby Cherry Hill Mall boasts over 165 retailers. Despite the convenience of those nearby big-name stores, many Swedes Run residents opt to shop locally. Taylor River Side Farm is a community staple a few miles away along the Delaware River, offering fresh seasonal produce and homemade honey. In the late 20th-century, the Taylor family dedicated 85 acres of their land to the New Jersey Naturals Lands Trust, forming the adjacent Taylor Wildlife Preserve, which is open to the public year-round.
