Delta is a small town seeing slow but steady growth
Delta is a small town on Route 50 with strong community bonds and frequent local events, including the Millard County Fair. With a compact Main Street district in the middle of town and Gunnison Bend Reservoir out west, locals have easy access to shops and outdoor recreation despite the remote location away from major cities. “Over the past five years, there’s been a little bit of growth,” says Savannah Rogers, an area resident for 15 years and real estate agent at The Agency Salt Lake City. “Since COVID, lots of people are moving out to these rural areas. It’s got a lower cost of living, and you can work from home.” The community is expected to grow in the next several years as Fibernet MercuryDelta plans to build a large gas plant and data center, potentially contributing millions of dollars to the local economy.
Community parks and nearby boating at Gunnison Bend Reservoir
Located on Main Street, Delta City Park is an idyllic green space with grassy fields shaded by mature oak trees. In addition to playgrounds and picnic areas, the park features a skate park and a splash pad. Neighborhood Park, on the community’s east side, is another major gathering space with a basketball court and two baseball diamonds. Gunnison Bend Reservoir is a popular spot for boating and fishing, also acting as a habitat for lesser snow geese as they migrate north in February. The nearby Bunker Hill Motocross Track and Millard County Raceway host off-roading events and dirt track racing competitions, respectively. A few miles outside of town, Sunset View Golf Course has 18 holes and is open to the public.
Housing options include bungalows, ranches and larger lots
Streets in Delta are shaded by mature juniper and oak trees with broad shoulders for street parking. “There’s a wide array of housing,” Rogers says. “You can get anything from a quarter-acre to 5 acres or more.” Ranch-style homes and bungalows make up most of the housing inventory, though there are pockets of Craftsman bungalows in the center of town. Homes don’t go on the market often, but when they do, they sell after an average of 69 days. According to a Homes.com calculation, which uses a combination of estimated data, the community's average home value was about $330,000 in mid-2025.
Annual events include the Delta Snow Goose Festival
As snow geese migrate through the region in February, the Delta Area Chamber of Commerce holds the annual Delta Snow Goose Festival in February, as snow geese are migrating through the region. The main draw to the festival is the opportunity for bird-watching, along with the wildlife photo contest, though other events include a 5K fun run, craft fair and quilt show. Delta also hosts the Millard County Fair every June with live music, carnival rides and rodeo events.
Provo and Salt Lake City are the nearest major cities
Delta is at the intersection of routes 50 and 6, with the former connecting to Interstate 15 about 30 miles away. Though many small towns are in the surrounding area, larger cities like Provo and Salt Lake City are 90 and 135 miles away, respectively. Intermountain Health Delta Community Hospital serves the community, and Salt Lake City International Airport is about 140 miles away.
Delta schools offer career training and B and C range academics
Delta South School, which serves prekindergarten through first-grade students, earns a B-minus from Niche. Delta North School, which teaches second through fourth graders, and Delta Middle both earn a B. The C-plus-rated Delta High offers a wide range of career-oriented courses in small engine repair, welding and animal science.
Small business corridor on Main Street
Businesses and restaurants span the length of Main Street, including family-owned eateries like Rico Antojo Mexican Food. Ashton’s Burger Barn is one of several Western-themed eateries, serving American fare. Locals can shop for groceries at Quality Market or Jubilee.
