Multigenerational families in this post-WWII housing development
Come Halloween, Harvey Park neighbors show off their holiday spirit by competing in spooky decorating competitions. Skeletons, pumpkins and cobwebs line the narrow stone pathways leading up to post-World War II-era cottages and ranch styles. During the winter holidays, locals go all-out on string lights. “There’s a lot of people that have lived in Harvey Park for a long time,” says Sean Murphy, a Denver area Realtor who bought his first-ever home in Harvey Park. “You’ll find quite a few multigenerational families.” Lots are relatively compact, meaning homeowners get to know one another. “You’re also a short drive away from Denver and you have easy access to the mountains if you jump on Highway 285,” says Murphy. The neighborhood shares a name with its central feature, Harvey Park, where kids look out for blue herons and cranes resting on the banks of Riviera Lake and play freeze tag on the playground. During the summer months, residents splash in the community pool and, around the fourth of July, look to the skies for fireworks shows.
Wildlife can be spotted on the lake at Harvey Park.
Harvey Park is a suburb just over 7 miles south of downtown Denver with access to the mountains.

Ranch-styles and mid-century modern homes from the 1950s
In Harvey Park, the streets are wide, flat and lined with trees. Prospective buyers will find mostly brick ranch-style homes built in the 1950s during the post-WWII housing crisis. Lots are small with short driveways — some homes have attached two-car garages, while others have covered awnings to keep off the Colorado snow. Most of these single-story properties range from approximately $400,000 to $600,000. Several mid-century modern Cliff May homes are sprinkled throughout the neighborhood, and these sleek designs can sell for upwards of $650,000. “There are about 130 Cliff May homes in the neighborhood that people go bananas for. They’re highly, highly sought after,” confirms Murphy. In the 1920s, long before Harvey Park became an outpost for WWII veterans, famous big-band-leader Paul Whiteman built a house on Tennyson Street for his parents. Once the site of late-night parties, it still stands today near Riviera Lake.
In Harvey Park you'll find some ranch homes from the 1950s that have been remodeled.

Summer festivities, paddleboarding and sunset views in local parks
Harvey Park, home to tennis courts, a community pool and an indoor rec center, sits at the center of the neighborhood. “The Harvey Park Community Organization — known as HPCO — plans a really nice summer festival. The people that live on Lake Riviera put on a fireworks show. There are all kinds of little community events like this year-round,” says Murphy. On July 4th, neighbors participate in a bike parade around the lake; red, white and blue decorations are encouraged. To the south of the neighborhood is Lake Wolcott, a non-motorized HOA-controlled area. Lakeridge Association members can paddle board or kayak on sunny days. For sunset views and a family picnic, head to Loretto Heights Park.
Some homes in Harvey Park have private boat docks sitting on Lake Riviera.

Pho, tortillas and grocery shopping along Federal Boulevard
Harvey Park residents can pick up their weekly groceries at Save A Lot in the Brentwood Shopping Center or, elsewhere along Federal Boulevard, find fast food chains like McDonald’s, Taco Bell and Jack in the Box. According to Murphy, Federal is also the best place to go for international food — there’s Pho 95 Noodle House and Tortilleria Cuauhtemoc, a Mexican bakery known for fresh tortillas. “I’ve found some of the best multicultural dining in the city here,” says Murphy. There are also plenty of retail options in Bear Valley Shopping Center, located a few minutes south along U.S. Highway 285. Find a Home Depot, King Soopers for groceries and Dog House Tavern, which is “One of the best places for relaxing and watching the game.”
For lunch or dinner you can order a steaming bowl from Pho 95 near Harvey Park.

Harvey Park is a great neighborhood to live in. I've been living there for over two years now. The neighbors are so nice and welcoming. There is a large park with a playground, a lake, tennis courts, basketball courts, Baseball fields, soccer fields, open fields, and even a Denver Recreation center.

I have lived here all my life and absolutely adore it. It is close enough to downtown to provide cool opportunities and social activities but not so close that you aren't able to get peace and quiet.

I love Harvey Park! It's Denver's best kept secret in affordable single family homes. In the city and close to everything yet still feels like you're away from the hustle and bustle.
