Lincoln Park
Breakfast and brews on Santa Fe Drive
Built up within Denver’s city center, La Alma-Lincoln Park is dotted with restaurants, coffee spots, breweries and a variety of shops. Bordering North Speer Boulevard and Cherry Creek, King Soopers is a hub for daily provisions, while Santa Fe Drive plays host to the neighborhood’s most unique haunts. Swift’s Breakfast House has been slinging greasy hash since 1960, packed with regulars on the daily. Across the street, Renegade Brewing Company’s backward sign attracts craft beer connoisseurs and dog owners, regularly featuring food trucks and trivia nights. Nearby galleries and studios are free for pop-ins, next door to unassuming international restaurants and thrift stores.A certified creative district
The many galleries, studios, theaters and other creative businesses of Sante Fe Drive have led to its establishment as one of Colorado's first Certified Creative Districts. These landmark institutions memorialize Lincoln Park's contributions to the Chicano Movement while actively representing its modern diverse population. Museo de las Americas was the region's first museum dedicated to Latinx culture. Burgeoning teen artists looking to experiment will find rich inspiration through the Center for Visual Art's workshops and internships.“Collective galleries are popular here; there are several galleries like us in the district,” Ray explains. “Denver is kind of known for artists doing their own thing. A lot of them own and run galleries.” Additionally, the district's First Friday Art Walks draw thousands to Santa Fe Drive, rain or shine. “First Fridays are year-round; during the warmer months, there are far more people. There are some specific weekends where they literally close the street and vendors come in with cool clothes, all sorts of different things.”
Lincoln Park’s Victorian homes
The majority of Lincoln Park’s Victorian homes were built in the late 19th century, contributing to the neighborhood’s historic atmosphere. Running trim, brackets and asymmetrical flourishes are common among these antique properties, many of which have been renovated. Interwoven are Denver Squares and the occasional Tudor Revival cottage, ranging in price from $350,000 to more than $850,000. A massive selling point for public and private investors is the 21st-century increase in condos and apartments, priced between $200,000 and $400,000. High-rises offer potential buyers a view of Denver’s beating heart, while smaller buildings often boast eclectic living spaces closer to Lincoln Park’s bustling streets. The colorful community rec center
In addition to Santa Fe Drive’s historic arts district, residents cherish the neighborhood’s titular park. Visiting La Alma-Lincoln Park's rec center is a daily ritual for local families, notably for its fitness rooms and after-school programming. During the warmer months, the center’s splash pad and pool are popular alongside the skate park, multiple playgrounds and mixed-use fields. Nearby, Sunken Gardens Park borders North Speer Boulevard and Cherry Creek. The 12.5-acre green space was first established at the turn of the century and now features a vast open field, walking paths and shady tree canopies.10th and Osage Station
The light rail station on 10th and Osage makes for a convenient commute in and out of the neighborhood. Residents can also find bus stops along Kalamath Street and West 9th Avenue. Those relying on personal vehicles can take Interstate 25 north and south through the city, passing the Metropolitan State University of Denver. The city’s central thoroughfare, Colfax Avenue, cuts through Lincoln Park, which is conveniently lined with hundreds of shopping and dining options. Denver International Airport is 26 miles east via I-70 and Peña Boulevard.Talent development in Denver County Schools
La-Alma Lincoln Park’s students are zoned for Denver County 1 Schools, beginning at Greenlee Elementary’s Center for Talent Development. With a B-minus from Niche, Greenlee abides by the Talent Development Model, where students can identify and develop non-academic gifts in the arts, athletics and languages. Morey Middle School is situated in Capitol Hill, receiving an A-minus on Niche. Students close out at one of Denver's four original high schools, located within Lincoln Park. West High School's towering English gothic edifice has served the community since 1926, currently receiving a C from Niche.
