A scenic community with stately homes and verdant landscape
Tucked between Grand Avenue and Raccoon River, Greenwood is a serene residential community in Des Moines. Surrounded by scenic city parks and trails, schools, restaurants and shops, Greenwood is a premier suburb that is home to stately, historic mansions and the retirement community Wesley on Grand. “Greenwood has gorgeous riverbank estates that were built in the 1800s and the early 1900s by New England Settlers,” says Ross Peterson, who is a lifelong Des Moines resident and a Realtor at Iowa Realty. “This is Des Moines’ original Billionaires’ Row area with truly historic homes. It’s also very close to Central downtown and Ingersoll Avenue for shopping and entertainment, and its proximity to the banking corporations in the city makes for easy work commutes for area residents,” adds Jarod Snover, who is a real estate agent servicing the greater Des Moines area at Iowa Realty Mills Crossing.
Historic estates in Des Moines' premier neighborhood
Greenwood’s homes sit on small hills that wave through the locale, whilst green groves and verdant fields grow between quiet stretches of housing. Landscaped yards and thick foliage complement the Colonial Revival, Tudor Reivval and Victorian residences, creating a secluded, suburban ambiance within minutes of the city. Homes in the 3,000 square feet range may list between $700,000 and $1 million, and estate properties that are over 4,000 square feet with 1 to 3 acres of land lots can be priced between $1 million and $2 million. Smaller single-family cottage homes between 1,300 and 2,500 square feet may fetch between $330,000 to $500,000.
