In addition to MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center, which is less than 2 miles on back roads, the community has a primary health clinic for those who have trouble affording health care. The neighborhood is on a Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority (DARTA) bus route, making public transportation easy for residents. With its proximity to Interstate 235 and other area thoroughfares, like the Martin Luther King, Jr. Parkway and Keosauqua Way, King Irving offers easy access to other parts of the city, including Des Moines International Airport, which is a quick drive 5.5-mile drive on the parkway.Shopping and Dining
A few restaurants can be found on University Avenue, not far from the historic Basilica of St. John. Tacos Mariana’s, known for its tacos, burritos and other Mexican staples. Traveling a little further west into Drake, residents will fine the Drake Diner, an homage to the midcentury eateries, and Lucky Horse Beer & Burgers, where patrons can grab a pint with their burger and watch the game. At Dough Co. Pizza, patrons can order specialty pies, sandwiches and salads. Muldoon shops for groceries at Aldi on University Avenue.Some incidents do occur
