According to Montanaro, Meredith’s advantageous location allows residents to “enjoy easy access to major highways and public transportation, simplifying their daily commute.” He also adds that the neighborhood provides locals accessibility to Mercy One Des Moines Medical Center, located less than a 5-mile drive away. Interstate 35 runs east-west along the neighborhood’s northern border and connects residents to the nearby Marquisville community and Interstate 235. Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority (DART) operates fixed bus routes along Route 6 and Merle Hay Road. Additionally, residents can drive approximately 10 miles south via Fleur Drive to reach the Des Moines International Airport.Retail and dining options abound in the Merle Hay Mall area
“There are lots of shopping and dining experiences in the Merle Hay Mall area, providing a variety of retail and culinary options. The mall and shopping center include a full-service movie theater, as well as Target, restaurants, a number of bars and boutiques,” Montanaro says. Along Merle Hay Road, residents can shop for home office essentials at Office Depot, pick up a new chew toy for their dog at Pet Supplies Plus or craft a unique outfit from the collection at Many Hands Thrift Market. Grocery shopping can be done at the nearby Europa Groceries supermarket or Hy-Vee in nearby Johnston. Locals can also grab a gourmet waffle with various toppings or a standard American burger in Perkins Restaurant and Bakery’s traditional sit-down setting. For a morning caffeine boost, commuters can swing by Twisted Bean Coffee for a menu full of specialty drinks and baked goods.
