Solid brick homes with staying power
Houses in Grand River-St Marys tend to go for between $60,000 and $140,000. "There's still a strong market in this area," says Funk. "I've still got multiple offers when houses go up on the market." The neighborhood is next to Route 39 and the popular Rosedale Park Historic District. "That is a nice area. The biggest key is solid brick homes, Funk says. "The houses don't fall apart so easily. They have some staying power." You'll spot Tudor revivals and Cape Cods in this area, along with some ranch-style homes, generally all in distinctive Detroit brick. The neighborhood's streets are lined with sidewalks and road verges, and lawns are precisely edged and cut. You'll often see symmetrical shrubs around the front door of each home and chain link fences marking out back and side yards. The area has a variety of people living there, and it's common to see neighbors being friendly with one another. "You've got a mix of people buying to live there and people who are buying to rent it out," says Funk. "The mix creates a community."
