Marina District
Newer homes with long-time residents
Homes in the Marina District were built in the early 2000s. Today, they often hit the market for $150,000 to $400,000. Future residents can also find townhouses for rent along Marquette Drive, but most locals own their homes. Only two homes sold in 2023, so people who get a home here don’t let it go. “Some people have lived in these homes for 20 or 30 years,” says Eric Lang, a Realtor with Keller Williams Platinum who helps clients find homes in the neighborhood. “And renters in the townhouses usually stay for at least two years or more.” These national-style homes have straightforward designs with attached garages that often extend away from the home, paved driveways and moderate yards.Future business owners learn at Southeastern High
Parents often send their kids to Hutchinson Elementary-Middle School, which earns a C-minus from Niche. Students later move on to the C-rated Southeastern High School. This exam school offers students opportunities to learn about entrepreneurship and business administration. Athletes can try out to become a Jungleer for a wide range of sports teams, like football and basketball.Belle Isle fun and historic Pewabic Pottery
Marinas make up the park space in the neighborhood. Riverside Marina is a minority-owned marina that offers private memberships and boat rentals for those who want to set sail for Lake St. Clair. Safe Harbor Detroit River also gives members access to the Detroit River and boat storage options. Residents who want to relax on a beach or explore nature go across the river to Belle Isle. Visitors might spend the day at Belle Isle Beach, go fishing at one of the piers or stop by the country’s oldest aquarium—Belle Isle Aquarium. Down the road from the neighborhood, the Pewabic Pottery museum offers free admission for those who want to see one of the longest-operating potteries that sells handcrafted items and gives tours around the Tudor-style building.Walking to Parkway Foods or Legends Grill
Marina District residents don’t have to go far to find a restaurant to enjoy. Sinbad’s Marina and Restaurant has been serving surf and turf dishes since the 1950s. Guests can arrive by car or boat. For date night, locals can book a reservation at IVY Kitchen + Cocktails. Those who want a quick bite for breakfast or lunch head to Legend Grill to order in the drive-thru or head inside to eat in the retro-themed diner. When residents need groceries for homecooked meals, they stock up at Parkway Foods. Others can go across the street to see what Dollar General has in stock or to get last-minute items.
Quiet streets near the Detroit River
Although the marina and a water treatment plant sit near the homes, residents don’t deal with excessive noise. “The marina is pretty quiet. You wouldn’t hear anything over there unless there was a party going on,” Lang says. Lang also mentions the water treatment plant is also quiet.Residents can bike, bus or drive to Downtown Detroit
When locals want to visit Downtown Detroit, they have options. Some catch the DDOT bus at one of the stops along Jefferson Avenue. Cyclists can use the bike lane that also runs down Jefferson Avenue into the downtown area. Drivers can be at Ford Field to see a Lions football game or Comerica Park for a Tigers baseball game after a roughly 20-minute drive.
