About Dock Junction, GA

About Dock Junction, GA

Dock Junction has affordable homes near Turtle River

The Dock Junction community offers budget-friendly living in the northern reaches of Brunswick. It's a convenient location for buyers -- Interstate 95 and major roads runs through here -- which is its primary draw, according to Realtor Deanne Cohrs with Keller Williams, a former Brunswick resident. "The biggest thing is that people can easily commute to the big areas around there; it's really accessible," Cohrs says. "It's a car-dependent area, but you can reach the major retail area in a few minutes. You can also easily get to downtown -- its restaurants, the historic district and the different shops or events there." In addition to commercial areas, Dock Junction is close to the Turtle River and various parks where residents can get outdoors. Schools are well-rated here, too, so families may find this area desirable.

A mix of midcentury homes and new construction near the river

Dock Junction has that coastal Georgia feel, with warm, humid weather that allows lawns to remain lush and green and palmetto trees to stand under towering pine trees and live oaks draped with Spanish moss. It's an older suburban community primarily offering ranch-style houses, manufactured homes, bungalows and shingle-style cottages on small, tidy lots. These are often listed between $110,000 and $225,000. Townhouses are available across the area, priced between $120,000 and $200,000. Occasionally, larger homes on Turtle River or new construction are listed, with prices ranging between $250,000 and $400,000, but sometimes reaching as high as $900,000.

Locals have options in the Glynn County School District

Glynn County School District serves public school students living in Dock Junction. This large area covers several school zones, so students can start at either Glyndale Elementary, which earns a B-minus rating from Niche, or Golden Isles Elementary, which earns a B. Students can then attend A-minus-rated Glynn Middle, B-plus-rated Needwood Middle or B-plus-rated Jane Macon Middle. High schoolers either go to B-rated Brunswick High or A-rated Glynn Academy. Students in grades nine through 12 can take classes at Golden Isles College and Career Academy, which has pathways including sports medicine, graphic design, engineering and cyber security.

Neighborhood parks and waterside recreation

Access to the Turtle River provides residents with boating, fishing and kayaking opportunities. Some homes may have private docks, but there's a public access point across the river at Blythe Island Beach Drive Park. The closest community green space is Ballard Park, which has a playground, ball fields and a small walking loop. Selden Park is nearby, offering 33 acres of land, home to large oak trees dripping with moss, athletic fields, sports courts, a playground and a large pavilion for community events. Hikers and bikers may enjoy Blythe Island Regional Park, which offers a few paved trails with river views, a campground and various wildlife.

Dining and retail on Golden Isles Parkway and downtown Brunswick

The community is close to Brunswick's two retail hubs. Golden Isles Parkway is home to the Glynn Place Mall, which offers department stores, classic retail chains and a movie theater. Locals also visit the area for grocery and big box stores. "It's where you'll find the only Target, Walmart and Publix in Brunswick," Cohrs says. Banks, supply shops, small businesses and a mix of chain and local restaurants comprise the rest of this area. Some local eateries include the Hungry Crab, a colorful seafood boil joint, and Tup Tim Thai Cuisine, which offers rich, fragrant curries and noodle dishes. More options are available on New Jessup Highway, which has a Winn-Dixie and more dining establishments like 1800 Mexican Restaurant, a popular place for margaritas and enchiladas. Residents are only about 6 miles from picturesque downtown Brunswick, which offers its share of boutiques, shops, restaurants and breweries.

Close to I-95 and other major thoroughfares

Dock Junction is near major thoroughfares like Blythe Island Highway and Norwich Street, which connect residents east to the main retail area and south to downtown Brunswick. Interstate 95 runs through the north end of the community and connects to major towns along the East Coast. Limited public transit is available, but Glynn County has plans for a micro-transit system operating a few bus routes across the county and to St. Simons Island. Southeast Georgia Health System-Brunswick Campus is the closest medical center, 4 miles away. The Brunswick Golden Isles Regional Airport is 6 miles from Dock Junction. Dock Junction has a CAP Index crime score of 4 out of 10, the same as the national figure.
