Doe Valley is a highly desired gated community outside Louisville
Between Louisville and Elizabethtown, Kentucky, there are few places as sought-after as Doe Valley. This private, guard-gated community lies to the east of Brandenburg. Its wooded residential drives and private amenities are an oasis in this predominantly agricultural area. “For people who don’t mind an HOA, Doe Valley is probably the nicest option around here,” says Realtor Chris Howard with Green Team Real Estate, who’s lived in the Elizabethtown area for over 20 years. “They have everything in the community, like a private golf course and a clubhouse,” Howard says. “There’s even a private lake. I forget about it with all the other stuff they have.” The amenities are a huge perk, but buyers are equally swayed by Doe Valley’s homes, which are known as some of the nicest in the area.
Wooded lots, lakefront homes and building opportunities
Doe Valley has a spacious layout in the heavily wooded Kentucky hills. Many of these sloping, tree-laden lots are half an acre or larger, giving homes ultimate privacy. “I know a ton of Realtors who live in Doe Valley, and there’s good reason,” Howard says. “You can find some really nice homes.” Most homes were built between the 1970s and 2000s. Prices go from $230,000 to $360,000 for three- to four-bedroom ranch-style and New Traditional homes, as well as A-frame and cabin-style homes. Larger New Traditional homes and midsize new construction can cost $360,000 to $450,000. Prices reach $450,000 to $575,000 for lakefront mansions and larger new homes with lake views. “There are also a bunch of open lots, which is rare for a development like this,” Howard says. These range from quarter-acre parcels to multiacre lakeview properties, costing $4,000 to $130,000.
Residents have private clubs and a lake all to themselves
Within Doe Valley’s expansive property, there’s a golf club, a swim and tennis club and an entire lake. Chances are there’s a space to cater to whatever activity residents prefer. Doe Valley Golf Club is closest to the main entrance, in the community’s south end. Along with the 18-hole course, it has practice facilities and a grill for a bite after rounds. Doe Valley Lake splits the community in half. On the north end of it, there’s a fully-equipped marina where many residents dock their boats. The Doe Valley Swim & Tennis Club is also on the lakefront, a short drive from the marina. It has tennis and basketball courts, a clubhouse and a pool. From the pool, people can walk to the club’s lakefront beach. Residents can also access a sandy beach on the opposite side of the lake.

Kids begin at Barry Hahn Primary School, rated a B-plus, which teaches prekindergarten through third grade. Fourth through sixth grades are completed at David T. Wilson Elementary School, which gets a B-plus as well. B-minus-rated Stuart Pepper Middle School and C-plus-rated Meade County High School finish off the journey. Seniors at Meade County High are eligible for senior electives that give them a head start on their post-grad career passions, including courses in business management and Advanced Placement computer science.
Dining at the community and shopping in Brandenburg
Residents can dine at the Doe Valley Swim & Tennis Club, where the dining room overlooks the lake. There’s also a snack shack at the pool. Golfers can grab a bite after rounds and range sessions at the golf club’s grill. People head into Brandenburg for their shopping needs. About 3 miles west on state Route 313, River Ridge Plaza has a Kroger, Walgreens and other shops and eateries. There are other restaurants and coffee shops on Brandenburg’s Main Street.
Louisville is just over 40 miles northeast
Some residents might work in Brandenburg, or at the Fort Knox Army base, less than 15 miles southeast on state Route 1638 and U.S. Route 31 West. There’s also Elizabethtown, Kentucky, less than 30 miles southeast. Still, many residents commute to employers in and around Louisville. Downtown Louisville is about 40 miles northeast on U.S. 31W. It’s also where Doe Valley residents usually go for large hospitals, and it’s home to Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport.
