Ask longtime natives of eastern Louisville where they see themselves in 10 years, and they might say Druid Hills. This Kentucky home-class city of roughly 140 well-appointed homes is where people want to be, even if it’s spending a few hours shopping in that part of town, says Realtor Jackie Strange with Kentucky Select Properties. Strange grew up in nearby St. Matthews and made real estate her second career when she began selling in 2008. “Druid Hills and the Chenoweth corridor are where everyone shops,” she says. “There’s something cozy, inviting and comfortable about the area. You can tell locals take pride in their homes and businesses. It’s a place that feels loved.” Strange lives in the Highlands, about 5 miles to the southwest, but often finds her business and personal life bring her back to Druid Hills.

Neighborhood children can walk to Chenoweth Elementary, which received a B-minus from Niche. Teachers at Chenoweth are certified to instruct special area classes in STEM subjects, physical education, library, music and Spanish. At Barret Traditional Middle, an A-minus school, service learning is emphasized through the school’s Barret Cares Program, which provides community service opportunities. When it’s time to shop for groceries, residents often head down to Chenoweth Square. “You can pick up fresh produce at Paul’s Fruit Market,” Strange says. “Lori’s Fish Market is in the same shopping center, and just down the street is Nanz & Kraft Florists, when you need something special for an important occasion or a nice dinner at home.” Speaking of which, 211 Clover Lane has laid claim to its expertise in farm-to-table fine dining since it opened in 1985. The menu changes weekly, also featuring artisan wines and spirits.

Ways to get around Louisville
Druid Hills residents can catch the 15 bus along Brownsboro to downtown or elsewhere in Louisville. Druid Hills is close to Interstates 71, 64, 264 and 65, which connect to Lexington, Cincinnati, Ohio, Indianapolis and Nashville, the major cities surrounding it. Louisville International Airport is only a 10-mile car ride on Interstate 264.
The TARC number 15 bus line serves the residents of Druid Hills.

Summer Saturdays at the market
The closest farmers market to Druid Hills is held at Beargrass Chrisitan Church on Shelbyville Road every Saturday from May to September. Known as the St. Matthews Farmers Market, the family-friendly event features home-grown fruits, vegetables and other locally made products.
