A destination winery stop and a countryside feel in Dundee
Just north of the winding Willamette River, Dundee lies in the heart of Oregon’s wine country. “In recent years, Dundee has become a wine destination,” says Jolie Richards, a broker with Bella Casa Real Estate Group who has been serving the Willamette Valley area for years. There are numerous tasting rooms in town and dozens of vineyards within a short drive. On the southwest outskirts of Newberg, the community is surrounded by farmland and forests, providing a countryside feel within minutes of city amenities.
A diverse market, from cozy ranch-style homes to luxury builds
The streets surrounding downtown Dundee are lined with ranch-style homes, Cape Cods and cozy craftsman houses on small lots, while the north side of town features larger, luxury builds with expansive properties. “You’ll find a lot more high-end homes here compared to Newberg and Lafayette,” Richards says. Multi-acre lots are common in north Dundee, providing privacy from neighbors and space for animals and workshops. Manufactured homes and modest single-family builds range from $75,000 to $570,000, while larger homes and houses on spacious lots can go for $570,000 to $1.6 million, price tags increasing alongside square footage and property size. Additionally, the community has a CAP Index Crime Score of 2 out of 10, which is lower than the national average of 4.
Downtown tasting rooms and popular local restaurants
There are a handful of popular tasting rooms along Highway 99 West in the center of town, including Argyle Winery, which has indoor and patio seating and seasonal tasting events. Just west of Dundee, Furioso Vineyards offers two tasting flights, snacks and reservable vineyard tours and barrel tastings. On the third Thursday evening of each month, downtown Dundee hosts live music, wine tasting specials, food vendors and art demonstrations. For an upscale meal out, The Dundee Bistro serves Italian-inspired fare with a menu that changes with the seasons. Nearby, Red Hills Market sells a wide array of beverages and bites, along with handmade decor and locally sourced cheeses. Visitors can stop by the market for their morning coffee or enjoy a sit-down meal of wood-fired pizza or steak. Newberg is a few miles away and has a variety of supermarkets, including Safeway and Fred Meyer.
Athletic fields and wooded trails in Dundee
Dundee Billick Park has picnic tables, paved walking trails and facilities for baseball, tennis and basketball. Playgrounds can be found at numerous public green spaces throughout town, including Fortune and Falcon Crest parks. The Harvey Creek Trail is accessible from Viewmont Drive and winds for over a mile through the woods and alongside its namesake creek. For a day on the Willamette River, boaters and anglers can head to the nearby Rogers Landing County Park.
Career and technical education and dual enrollment at Newberg High
Many of the area’s students attend Dundee Elementary School and Chehalem Valley Middle School, both of which earn B-plus overall grades from Niche. Newberg High School receives a B-minus and has nine career and technical education pathways, including experience-based courses like livestock animal science, sports and event marketing and graphic design. The high school also partners with Portland Community College for its dual enrollment courses.
A convenient bypass and access to Portland
In 2018, the 4-mile Newberg Dundee Bypass was completed to aid in traffic concerns between the two communities. “The new bypass has helped it become more of a destination town,” says Richards. “It alleviates some of the traffic congestion.” Downtown Portland is around 30 miles away via Highway 99 West. Portland International Airport is roughly 38 miles away.
