According to Realtor Chris Vonderau with RE/MAX Advantage, highway access and scenery are the main factors bringing buyers to this community. “Whenever we have somebody looking on the [U.S. Route] 280 corridor, we always take them down to Dunnavant,” he says. “It’s simply beautiful down that way.”

New Traditional homes on sprawling estates make up most of Dunnavant’s listings, with a variety of prices offering entry points for different budgets. “There are beautiful, big acreage homes down in that area, but there’s still affordable housing for those not wanting a McMansion,” Vonderau says. For $30,000 to $340,000, buyers can find modest ranch-style and New Traditional homes, sometimes needing renovations, on up to 2 acres. Most prices fall between $650,000 and $1.2 million, offering large New Traditional homes on up to 25 acres. Prices above $1.2 million buy brand-new estates, usually on acreage and sometimes as large as 7,000 square feet. Dunnavant’s winding residential streets do not have sidewalks or curbs.

Shelby County Schools gets an overall A-minus grade from Niche. Mt Laurel Elementary, Oak Mountain Middle School and Oak Mountain High School all get As. The closest restaurants to Dunnavant are in Leeds, less than 10 miles away. Rusty’s Bar-B-Q is a mom-and-pop barbecue shop serving pit-smoked meats alongside sides and desserts. Jack’s Family Restaurant is a chain that serves American fare for breakfast, lunch and dinner and has a drive-through. Taqueria La Juanita is a local restaurant serving tamales, tacos, burritos and other specials. For groceries, residents can shop at Walmart, Publix or Piggly Wiggly, all about 10 miles away.
