Pennsylvania burough bordered by the Lackawanna River

Duryea is a small-town borough framed by forested mountains and cradled by the eastern bank of the Susquehanna River. The Lackawanna River also flows through the borough, and hiking trails and peaks provide ample outdoor activities. Duryea has developed into a close community, centered around Main Street, with beloved local businesses and shops. The borough celebrates the achievements of its community, boasting itself as the home to Gene Guarilia, who earned four NBA championships with the Boston Celtics. Residents also come together for many community events, such as Halloween hayrides and Little League games. “Everyone here is welcoming; we have great neighbors and a fantastic mayor,” says Jordan Zbegner, a Duryea native and co-owner of the legendary Komensky’s Market. Duryea provides a peaceful, suburban atmosphere 9 miles southwest of downtown Scranton.
