Eagle Lake is a close-knit community with plenty of recreation
Eagle Lake is one of many Southeast Wisconsin communities that offer a mix of rural scenery and waterfront living. This community of about 1,300 people is named after a lake surrounded by homes with private docks. The lake is a year-round destination, with its activities ranging from fishing and water skiing to occasional cardboard boat races and ice golfing. Aside from its events and recreation, Eagle Lake is surrounded by acres of quiet farmland. “It’s a close-knit community where everybody knows everybody, and everybody watches over each other’s kids and things like that,” says Michelle Vanek, a Realtor with Shorewest Realtors and president of the Eagle Lake Manor Community Association.
Houses include ranch-style homes and some upscale waterfront options
Mature trees surround many homes that line roads with no sidewalks. Some lots here span half an acre, allowing space for things like play equipment or an above-ground pool. In the area around Marshall Square, several residents are within close walking distance of a pocket park with an open field and a small playground with swings, climbing bars and a merry-go-round. Common styles include ranch-style homes, Colonial Revival and New Traditional, and some houses have distinct designs like saltbox-style roofs and half-timbered siding. Size and location are cost factors, and homes mainly sell from $120,000 to $360,000. A few homes along the lake can run between $540,000 and $1 million. Eagle Lake has an overall CAP Index Crime Score of 2 out of 10, below the national average of 4.
The community’s signature lake is a year-round destination
Eagle Lake spans over 500 acres and has three boat landings. Those fishing its waters can find plenty of northern pike, panfish and largemouth bass. During the winter, the lake is popular for ice fishing and other activities that make use of its frozen waters. “The Eagle Lake Improvement Association does things like golfing on the lake in wintertime,” Vanek says, adding that players attempt to sink the balls into holes carved into the ice. “They’ll also do fishing jamborees for kids in the springtime.” Other community amenities include Eagle Lake Park, which has a playground and a baseball field.
Burlington schools offer open enrollment and B-rated campuses
The Burlington Area School District covers Eagle Lake and receives a B-plus from Niche. The district has open enrollment, which means students from outside its boundaries may attend its schools. Students may start at Waller Elementary and Karcher Middle, both of which get a B. They may then go to Burlington High School, which receives a B. The high school’s recent successes include its boys wrestling team winning an eighth straight conference championship in 2025. High school students going into trades like nursing and welding may get early college credits from the Gateway Technical College system.
Restaurants offer lakeside dining, live music and sports
Located on the water, Michael’s On The Lake serves a mix of casual and fine American dining. Like many Wisconsin restaurants, Michael’s hosts weekly fish fries that offer foods like hand-breaded haddock and walleye. For more bar fare, there’s 1175 Sports Park & Eatery, which also has TVs showing sports and live outdoor music during the summer. The restaurant neighbors a baseball field, and patrons can sometimes watch a game as they dine and drink. However, some residents travel to other communities to shop. Nearby Union Grove has a Piggly Wiggly grocery store, while Burlington has more chains like Walmart.
Racine County Fair draws many from around the region
In addition to the small lake events, many here may go to nearby communities for annual celebrations. Five miles east, the Village of Union Grove hosts the Racine County Fair in July and August. Attendees may get on carnival rides, listen to live music and see various farm animals, including cattle, pigs and chickens.
Commuters have access to Durand Avenue
Residents usually drive to commute and have access to Durand Avenue or Wisconsin Highway 11. The road goes to Burlington, 10 miles west. Burlington has Aurora Medical Center - Burlington, which has a Level III trauma center. Eagle Lake is less than 30 miles southwest of Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport, the region’s hub for commercial flights.
Winter snowfall is common
Newcomers here should invest in supplies like snow shovels, as the area gets 26 inches of snow a year. However, that amount is lower than in some parts of the greater Milwaukee area.
