East Bloomfield is a quiet, rural area close to Canandaigua
East Bloomfield draws homebuyers searching for rural landscapes, spacious lots and easy access to shopping and recreation in Canandaigua . Located in agricultural Ontario County, the town includes the village of Bloomfield and a few small hamlets. “Bloomfield has kind of become a hot market,” says Matthew Sharman, a Realtor with Empire Realty Group and one of the top agents in the region. “I think that’s because people in the neighboring affluent towns were getting sick of getting priced out, and they decided to go south.” Larger towns are about 15 minutes away, but many East Bloomfield residents don't mind the commute. “It’s more for people who want to be close to Canandaigua and don’t mind being more rural with a good home price, or they want to get to Victor and the thruway [Interstate 90],” Sharman says. “I’ve had a couple of buyers say that it’s well worth the drive to have peace.”
Homes with acreage come and a variety of styles
Much of the area housing stock dates back to the mid-1800s and early 1900s, featuring Colonial Revivals, bungalows and Nationals. Farmhouses sit on multiple acres of rolling countryside, and homes in the village can also have an acre or more. Buyers can find post-1950s split-levels and ranch-style homes on the outer edges of the village and newer builds in housing additions like Bennett Park Estates. Homes in need of repairs or updates can range from $100,000 to about $200,000, while move-in ready homes range sell for $250,000 to about $400,000. Newer builds, homes with five or more acres and renovated historic properties cost between $400,000 and $500,000.
Canandaigua offers year-round lake activities and green spaces
Residents enjoy year-round fun on Canandaigua Lake, a popular destination for fishing, boating, water sports and winter activities like ice fishing. Canandaigua has parks, playgrounds, and Sonnenberg Gardens and Mansion, a 50-acre Queen Anne estate with one of the few public gardens in the New York State Parks System. Just north of town, Boughton Park has 5 miles of wooded trails and a nearly 60-acre pond for kayaking, canoeing and fishing. Golfers can hit the greens at public courses like Parkview Fairways Golf Course and Victor Hills Golf Club, both within a 10-mile drive.
Education in town at Bloomfield Central School District
Bloomfield Central School District is located within the community and serves about 750 students. Bloomfield Elementary and Bloomfield Middle both receive a B-plus grade from Niche, and Bloomfield High gets a B. The middle and high schools share a facility and amenities like a hydroponics lab, where students grow fresh produce as part of the agricultural science program. The high school offers the International Baccalaureate program, a rigorous curriculum designed to prepare students for college. The private Elim Bible College is a few miles away in Lima .
Farm-fresh produce and proximity to Canandaigua’s amenities
Locals can get fresh produce at White’s Farm Market or Community-Supported Agriculture (CSA) programs, where consumers pre-pay for “shares” of the farm’s harvest and receive regular allotments of fresh produce, flowers or goods in return. The village has a few restaurants, including Sykes Pizzeria and Brady J’s, known for its pillowy cinnamon rolls. Other Half Brewing serves up craft brews on 8 acres nearby, while The Irish Mafia Brewing Company offers beer, cocktails and an Irish-inspired food menu. A new craft beverage maker, Collage Cellars FLX, plans to brew beer, cider and wine in East Bloomfield starting in 2026. Dollar General has essentials covered in the village, but most residents head to Canandaigua to grab groceries, run errands or grab a bite to eat. Locals dine at restaurants downtown and enjoy a 22-mile winery trail around the lake.
Easy access to Interstate 90
Canandaigua’s shops and amenities, including F.F. Thompson Hospital, are less than 10 miles away. Rochester is about 25 miles away. Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport is also about 25 miles away. Drivers can hop on Interstate 90, also known as the New York Thruway, less than 10 miles away in Victor. The east-west thruway stretches across the state and leads to Buffalo , about 90 miles west, and Syracuse , roughly 80 miles east.
Car shows and seasonal agritourism
The East Bloomfield Historical Society hosts a car show and parade in July. Fall brings crisp weather and a bountiful harvest to local agritourism operations like Duvall Farms, which offers a u-pick pumpkin patch, corn maze and hayrides. Canandaigua also has events, like the annual Canandaigua Christkindl Market, a craft show that kicks off the holiday season in November.
