Helena Valley Southeast is a region of rolling farmland where the hazy outlines of mountains are always in view. The landscape is threaded with underground irrigation canals, and tall grass grows around the telephone poles and wire fences that line the long and straight roads in the neighborhood. Heading to the lake or the mountaintop
People head outside of the neighborhood to Lake Helena to fish, boat and hunt, or to hike around the tree-lined shores of the Helena Valley Reservoir. “There are trails for hiking and running.” says Anita Sherley, a Broker with Big Sky Brokers. “The trails are everywhere.” Heading towards Helena proper, hikers and mountain bikers can test their endurance against the terrain of Mount Helena, which has a variety of trails that begin just outside the limit of the city. There are also hiking trails to the east around the Helena Valley Reservoir, and along the Missouri River, about eight miles away.
Helena Reservoir is a lake favored by fishermen.
Clarks Bay Recreation Area is close by for boating and swimming.

Helena Valley Southeast is a mix of subdivisions with ranch-style and contemporary homes, where plots are around an acre or less, lawns are green and well-maintained, and driveways have trucks and basketball hoops. The area is also dotted with farmhouses on larger plots of land, where mountains are always visible in the distance. Properties tend to sell for between $350,000 and $850,000. Some newly built properties on multi-acre lots can go for over $1 million.

Getting around Helena
A car or truck is the best way to get around Helena Valley Southeast and into Helena proper, which is about five miles away. The neighborhood is next to the Helena Regional Airport and about five miles from Interstate 15. Although the neighborhood is close to the noise of the airport, there is a noise reduction program in place to help with noise pollution, and most of the residential areas fall outside of high decibel areas. St. Peter’s Health, the area’s hospital, is also about five miles away.
Capital Transit East Valley bus service offerrs 4 buses a day to downtown Helena.

The best place in town for rodeo
The Lewis and Clark Fairground is the Helena hub for music, rodeo and other events. The Last Chance Stampede and Fair thunders into Helena every year, turning the fairground into a swirl of live music, rodeo performances and antique cars. Other seasonal events like Fall Fest provide activities for Helena year-round.
East Helena shopping and dining
The area borders East Helena, a small unincorporated community with characterful shops and restaurants. Creative Stitches sells fabric by the yard for quilters looking for the next colorful pattern to stitch into a quilt. A few blocks away, The Man Store sells cigars, tobacco and hot sauce. East Helena also has a Heritage Food Store and a few restaurants, like Smith’s Place, Leilani’s Lattes and Missouri River Brewing Company. Helena is about five miles away and has more restaurants like Shellie’s Country Café, and grocery stores like Van’s Thriftway.
