A mix of quiet and convenience in East Nottingham Township

East Nottingham Township is a residential community on the outskirts of the busier Oxford borough. “It has the small-town vibe with lots of country land, farms, and you can find an Amish stand almost anywhere,” says Sarah Dougherty, an employee at the Nottingham Inn Kitchen & Creamery and a resident of over 20 years. “You get the feel where everybody is family — even if you leave, you often end up coming back.” The area has suburban and rural neighborhoods, one community park and little commercial development. Though it seems secluded, locals are never too far from everyday amenities, with Oxford’s town center 3 miles away.

Local dining and big-box stores close to home

For a meal out, Post House Family Restaurant provides a classic American diner experience, with retro barstools, checkered floors and buffets. The Nottingham Inn Kitchen & Creamery is another community classic. “It was always a little breakfast house, originally owned by the Herr’s chip company, whose first factory is next door,” Dougherty says. “In 2011, it reopened independently with an ice cream store in the front and a restaurant with a full bar in the back — it’s always a very fun atmosphere.” Additional dining options are available on Third and Market streets in downtown Oxford, 3 miles away.

Despite its rural layout, the township has a few stores. BB’s Grocery Outlet and Ace Hardware provide essentials without driving into the heart of Oxford. The closest Walmart, other big retailers and fast-food spots are within 5 miles of most homes at Oxford Commons. Next door to the shopping center, the Oxford Farmers Market sells regional Amish goods all year round.
