Historic neighborhood near Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport

Conley Hills is a walkable neighborhood of early-to-mid-20th-century homes less than a mile from downtown East Point. "Conley Hills is an excellent area of well-preserved, older homes and a strong sense of community," says Atlanta native Lori Hanes, a Realtor with Keller Knapp Realty, who spent summers in East Point with her grandmother. Just north of the neighborhood, Sumner Park has long been a gathering spot and is home to the Dick Lane Velodrome, a cycling track built in the 1970s that still hosts weekly races and youth programs. Conley Hills is also part of an A-rated school district, including schools with an arts magnet program.

Walkable to Sumner Park and East Point Dog Park

The East Point Parks and Recreation Department recently added more trees along the nearly 1.5-mile trail at Sumner Park, which connects to downtown. The project repaved the tennis courts and brought new landscaping to the East Point Dog Park. The Dick Lane Velodrome in the park is one of only 21 of its kind in the country and the only one in Georgia. Olympic cyclists used this track during their training for the 1996 Olympic Games, and it features some of the steepest turns in any U.S. track, some reaching 36 degrees. Today, the East Point Velodrome Association runs youth programs like the Youth Cycling League, offering free activities for local children. About a mile away, Connally Nature Park spans 27 acres of tree-filled dirt trails and is home to Alba, the city’s largest white oak tree, which has stood for nearly 300 years.

Dick Lane Velodrome, constructed in 1974, is a bicycle racing facility inspired by a group of residents and City officials who visited the Munich Olympics.

Less than a mile from downtown East Point, a small yet growing area of local businesses and cultural attractions includes the Windmill Arts Center, which opened in 2017. "You don't have to go far for shopping. Plenty of small shops and restaurants have become destinations for people on this side of town," says Randy Brazee, a Realtor with the Jon and Randy Team, Keller Williams Realty Metro Atlanta. He points to popular restaurants like Oz Pizza, which hosts trivia every Thursday and Eat My Biscuits, which he notes is a great brunch spot. Wayfield Foods is less than a mile north, and Walmart is 3 miles east for groceries. Camp Creek Marketplace is about 5 miles west, offering dozens of chain retailers and an AMC movie theater.

Events held at Georgia’s first and only Dick Lane Velodrome

The Dick Lane Velodrome hosts a pro-race series every Wednesday night and a huge Omnium-style finale to cap off the season in September. As the cycling season ends, the East Point Farmers Market begins in September and is held downtown on Wednesday afternoons. One of East Point's most popular events is Wednesday Wind Down, an outdoor music concert in August featuring local and famed musicians.
