Four distinct seasons
The upstate New York enclave of East Rochester has existed since 1897 when it was known as the village of Despatch. The area was renamed in 1906 to help promote nearby Rochester. The city’s claim to fame is that in 1966 it was the smallest community to ever win a Little League or Senior Little League World Championship. To this day, the record still stands. Those who like four distinct seasons will get it in East Rochester. The summers are humid and the winters, on average, get nearly 60 inches of snow. The region has several activities to enjoy the winter weather, including ice skating and skiing.

Former piano factory serves as local mall
The Piano Works Mall is a popular destination for shopping. The mall was originally the Aeolian-American Piano Corporation, which opened in 1905. Known as the General Motors of the piano industry, the company was the fourth largest producer of pianos — roughly 700 a week. During World War II, the factory produced military aircraft parts. In 1985, the piano factory shut down and the facilities were converted to office, restaurant and mall space. “Piano Works Mall is a very eclectic place and a different little spot,” Maimone says.
