Metacomet real estate features architectural variety
Homes in the area represent a variety of styles and eras, including split-level, Colonial Revival and Tudor Revival homes built anywhere from 1900 to today. Overgrown trees and foliage provide shade and privacy between homes in subdivisions, which tend to have wide streets and narrow, if any, sidewalks. Three-bedroom homes commonly range from $600,000 and $670,000. “Five years ago, the most expensive homes in the area cost around $1 million. Now they’re around $2 million,” says Steve Adams, real estate agent at Goodwin Realty Group and longtime Easton resident. “A lot of people are moving here from the MetroWest area, between Boston and Worcester.” Despite the influx of people moving to Easton and housing prices increasing, homes in the area are still comparatively affordable: “A house costing $1.5 million in Easton would be around $4 million in Boston,” Adams says.Oliver Ames parks embrace natural surroundings
“There’s a significant amount of natural resource parks where people can take their families in the area,” Adams says. Among them is Frothingham Park, which has a running track, picnic areas and a playground. Also nearby is Governor Oliver Ames Estate Community Park, a scenic 36-acre estate with walking trails, meadows, ponds and antique 19th century stone stable.Easton Public Schools District serves the neighborhood
Most students in the Oliver Ames High School/Metacomet area attend school in the highly rated Easton Public Schools District. Blanche A. Ames Elementary School finished construction and opened its doors to preschool through second grade students in 2023. “It’s state of the art,” Adams says. The new school, which is not yet rated by Niche, features a sensory garden with musical instruments and a flowing “river” channeling rainwater. Students in third through fifth grades typically attend Richardson Olmsted Elementary School, which has an A-minus grade from Niche. Older students usually attend Easton Middle School and Oliver Ames High School, which both earned A-minus grades.Library and museums host programs for community
The Ames Free Library, with its red tile roof, tower and arched entryway, hosts events for kids and adults, including book clubs, story times, seminars and lectures. Next door is the Oakes Ames Memorial Hall, an event venue in the same style as the library that residents can rent out. Downtown, little ones enjoy the Children’s Museum in Easton. In addition to permanent exhibits like the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) Lab and MakerSpace, the museum holds programs for kids to make crafts and explore subjects like music and science.Commuter trains nearby
The Oliver Ames High School/Metacomet area of Easton sits 25 miles south of Boston and 30 miles northeast of Providence. “The town is commuter friendly,” Adams says. “Easton does not have a commuter train, but the surrounding towns do. It’s a 10 or 12-minute drive to commuter trains.” Easton’s closest rail station is Mansfield Station, which takes passengers to and from Boston and Providence. “From Easton, you can go skiing a couple hours away in New Hampshire or Vermont. It’s also close to beaches,” Adams says. The whaling town of New Bedford is about 35 miles away. The Farmer's Daughter uses locally-sourced produces
Residents and visitors alike head to The Farmer’s Daughter for elevated breakfast and lunch fare. “It’s not your typical place. They serve fancy entrees, and they source their produce locally from Langwater Farms,” Adams says. “It’s always busy, and they don’t take reservations. On a nice day you can walk around Main Street or walk to Governor Oliver Ames Estate while you wait.” La Cucina is another popular spot on Main Street, serving upscale Italian in a renovated church. Next door is Bliss Lifestyle Boutique, a trendy women’s clothing shop. Residents in the area pick up produce and other groceries at Shaw's, off of Route 123.
