Verdant, historic suburb off Ohio River Boulevard

From designated historic landmarks like Grace Anglican Church to custom mansions maintained since the 1800s, Edgeworth is best known for its mosaic of stunning historic architecture. What sets this northeastern Pittsburgh suburb apart, however, is a culture of local connection outside of the home. “The streets are lined by trees and sidewalks, so you can walk to the shops in Sewickley,” says Beverly McQuone, a Realtor at Berkshire Hathaway who has lived in Edgeworth for 40 years. “I raised my family here, and Edgeworth has continued to change for the better.” Anchored by highly rated schools and an array of public and private recreation hubs, Edgeworth provides amenities for a quiet, suburban lifestyle within 17 miles of downtown Pittsburgh.

Stately, historic homes under mature trees

Towering trees shade Edgeworth's residential streets, home to historic houses ranging from original colonial and Victorian estates to picturesque Tudor inspired cottages and the occasional contemporary design. Prices range widely based on lot size and square footage, with smaller, simpler historic homes and midcentury offerings built close to their neighbors selling for $280,000, to $800,000 and grandiose historic builds on intricately landscaped lawns selling for $1 million to over $3 million. Sidewalks connect the long, residential blocks branching from Beaver Road, but disappear in the narrow cul-de-sacs and dead-end roads that wind up Edgeworth’s forested hills.

Grassy, shady parks and private clubs

A handful of small, grassy parks shaded by plenty of trees are destinations for dog walkers and park bench-seekers, like Clay Park, a neat, triangular patch off Beaver Road and Morrow-Pontefract Park, a larger space rich with the sounds of birdsong and the trickle of a small creek. Off Little Sewickley Creek Road, Walker Park takes hikers on narrow trails through sun-dappled woods and creek-crossings. The Edgeworth Club was established in 1893 and provides classes and courts for local tennis and squash players, bowlers and swimmers who gain membership, and those seeking access to private pool amenities and family programs throughout the summer can join the waitlist at Woodland Swim Club.

There is little to no crime here. The worst that happens is speeding.

Very quiet safe small town feel. Good school options and the commute to downtown Pittsburgh is only about 25 minutes.
