Surrounding Braemar Golf Course in southwest Edina, and less than 13 miles southwest of downtown Minneapolis, Braemar Hills offers a quiet, suburban atmosphere. “It’s in a great location by the golf course in a quiet part of the city,” says John McWhite, a Coldwell Banker Realtor with more than 10 years of experience in the local housing market. “You’ve got good highway access with Interstate 494 and State Road 100 close by, but the golf course buffers a lot of the road noise. And on the west side of Edina, the lots are a little bigger, so people love that they can find a home with a little bit of a bigger backyard and a two or three-car garage.”
Once full of ramblers, now an eclectic housing mix
Low-profile 1950s ramblers are prevalent here, as are taller, Dutch Colonial Revival-style homes and boxy 1970s Contemporary homes. Towering trees dapple the quiet, gently curved residential streets with shade. True to its name, Braemar Hills has a steep elevation. Many lawns and gardens feature stacked stone or brick retaining walls. Prices here are steep, too, ranging between $700,000 and $2 million. At $950,000, the median home price in Braemar Hills soars well above the median for Edina, which hovers closer to $650,000. A Dutch Colonial-inspired home built in 1969, featuring five bedrooms, three bathrooms and an attached two-car garage, was recently listed for $950,000. An angular Contemporary home built in 1971, with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a freshly remodeled kitchen and a deep, moody exterior color scheme, sold for $1.9 million in October 2023.

Tee times under the Golf Dome, in any weather
Golf enthusiasts enjoy the neighborhood’s proximity to Braemar Golf Course. The course and its facilities are sprawled over 500 acres at the heart of Braemar Hills, less than a quarter mile from most homes. The course, recently redesigned to have wider fairways and minimal hazards, is the first new regulation 18-hole course in the state for more than a decade. And the club’s Golf Dome is the largest and longest-hitting indoor practice facility in the Twin Cities metro, with 44 tees spread over two levels. It’s also Minnesota’s only dome with cutting-edge Toptracer Range technology. But golfers aren’t the only ones who get to live close to their favorite sport. Braemar Arena, off Ikola Way less than a quarter mile from most homes, draws hockey and figure skating fans alike from around Edina. The arena features three indoor ice arenas and a seasonal outdoor rink. There’s even a ballet room for those who prefer slippers to skates. At Lewis Park, just 1 mile east down Dewey Hill Road, you’ll find another skating rink, alongside a classic playground and sunny practice ball fields and tennis courts.
Braemar Golf Course sits on 500 acres of scenic lakes and untouched oak ridges.

A tale of two malls
For groceries, residents head east across State Road 100. The local Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods and Target Grocery are all less than 4 miles from home, dotted between 70th and 78th Streets along France Avenue. Just a block north of Target, on either side of 69th Street, is the Southdale Center and Galleria. McWhite says both shopping malls are popular but for different reasons. “Galleria is a very high-end, upscale kind of shopping mall, where you’ll find Tiffany and Louis Vuitton. Then Southdale Center is more of a traditional type of mall, with your Apple store, American Eagle, J. Crew and places like that,” he says.
Southdale Center offers a seamless large mall shopping experience.
