A modern frontier
Throughout Oklahoma City's history, its frontier has continued to expand. According to local Realtors, the city's landlocked location buffers its housing market from the volatilities of the coasts. Suburban neighborhoods like Fisher Hills in Edmond, with their wide streets, good schools and spacious parks, are a product of that expansion. Fisher Hills is just one square mile inside hundreds of this Modern Frontier, as the OKC tourist board calls the city, but it's a microcosm of the lifestyle, amenities and relative affordability that have made the OKC housing market as hot as any in the nation.
Postwar ramblers and modern farmhouses
According to Seth Bullard, a Realtor from Keller Williams Central Oklahoma, "There's a huge range of prices in the area, anywhere from $150,000 to $800,000, depending on size and condition." Homes here run the gamut from the ubiquitous brick ranch-style to the Cape Cod-inspired to the neocolonial to the modern farmhouse, but a few midcentury modern beauties come up on the market every so often. Something about the near-flat roofs, brick walls and window walls common to this style makes them fit in perfectly on these slow, arid streets of towering oaks and maples under the big sky. Three-bedroom versions on lots landscaped with boxwoods and redbuds are listed for under $300,000. At the top of the market, massive new constructions looking like a cross between a modern farmhouse and a neo-Tudor with four bedrooms on acre-sized lots in new luxury subdivisions are listed for under $700,000.
Fisher Hills homes are modestly priced.
