Sun Valley East homes offer distant views of the mountains to the west. Mostly built between the 1950s and the 1970s, these residences tend to have three to four bedrooms. Learning at Newman and Andress

El Paso Independent School District schools are on the southern edge of the neighborhood, and many children can walk to school. Young students attend Newman Elementary, which has a B-minus on Niche. In 2019, the city combined two public schools to form Bobby Joe Hill PK-8. Located inside the Sun Valley West community, the school is unranked by Niche. Andress High School, also within walking distance, has a C-plus. Allan Sepkowitz Stadium, on the high school grounds, is a hotspot for school games and local leagues.

Travelling in El Paso and weather conditions

McCombs Street brings locals within 3 miles of U.S. Highway 54 and 2 miles of El Paso business loop, known locally as Dyer Street. The city’s Sun Metro provides bus stops along Sun Valley Drive and Rushing Road. Military residents and veterans can reach Fort Bliss within 10 miles. Drivers can get to the Bridge of the Americas in about 13 miles.  During the summer, the city experiences sweltering temperatures exceeding 100 degrees. The region is also prone to dust storms throughout the year, but they are more common during late winter and spring.

Visting Veterans Park and the mountains

Veterans Park, about 2 miles north, is a popular city green space for the onsite pool and skate park. The recreation center offers an indoor gymnasium and weight room. Locals can play a game of pickup basketball on the indoor or outdoor courts. The athletic fields host community league games for rugby, flag football and baseball. Franklin Mountains State Park, about 10 miles away, is a local favorite for hiking and biking.

Businesses on Fairbanks and Dyer

Residents shop about a mile away on Fairbanks Drive, which has a Valley Supermarket location and national fast-food chains. The local shop, Yaty Donuts and Boba 2, serves smoothies, kolaches and breakfast burritos. More dining options are dotted along Dyer Street, also known as a special business route of U.S. 54. Honoring veterans and a popular parade

Residents are close to the city's northeastern events like the 9/11 Heroes Run El Paso, held at Veterans Park. The Mimbela Family NorthEaster Parade is a long-standing El Paso tradition dating over 45 years. The parade often has over 100 floats, attracting more than 10,000 people each year.
