An escape from busy city life in Valley Creek South
The neighborhood of Valley Creek South sits in northwest El Paso, right between the Rio Grande and the New Mexico border. “Around here, it’s either the mountains or the river, and that’s on the river. It’s also a nice area if you work in New Mexico or at the Transmountain hospital,” says Julie Orona, a Realtor with The Real Estate Power Houses who has nearly 40 years of experience selling homes in the area. Fifteen miles separate the neighborhood from downtown El Paso, so residents can escape the bustle of city life without sacrificing its conveniences. Popular dining and retail destinations are just a few miles away, and the rugged peaks of the Franklin Mountains loom on the horizon. “If you like the country, that’s a pretty area,” Orona says, “but you have to be a valley person.”

Many homes are built in the Spanish Colonial Revival style, with stucco walls, tiled roofs and arched entryways, plus low stone walls and pocket-sized rock yards or grassy lawns. Short cul-de-sacs branch off the main residential streets, some bordered by paved sidewalks. Small single-family homes go for $300,000 to $400,000, but larger builds fetch prices from $425,000 to $950,000. Contemporary luxury homes in gated communities and subdivisions like Horizonte Residencial command prices in the $1 to $2 million range. Nearby, the members-only Tennis West Sports & Racquet Club offers 14 lighted championship courts, instruction for juniors and adults, and sips and nibbles from onsite bar 40 Love.
