A walkable community close to amenities
Sycamore Shoals derives its name from a set of Watauga River rapids a half-mile north, once an important military site during the Revolutionary War. Today, locals can visit the National Historic Landmark, which is now a state park and educational resource. Beyond the significance of its name, the small suburban community’s location on Elizabethton's eastern side grants short trips to an array of shopping and dining opportunities. Similarly, it is served by well-rated schools, within walking distance of Kiwanis Park and not far from the annual events of the city's downtown district.
Sycamore Shoal residents enjoy close proximity to nature and modern amenities.

Short strolls and bike rides lead to Kiwanis Park, situated at the heart of the community. Here, little ones run loose on the playground and host pick-up games on the multi-use field and basketball court. The park’s Don Tetrick Pavilion also has a fridge, stove and restroom facilities for birthdays and other special occasions. Sycamore Shoals State Park is situated just north on the banks of Watauga River. “It’s a great park in the area,” says Katy Bennett, Realtor with Hurd Realty. “They also do war reenactments there as well.” Its Interpretive Museum provides a glimpse into the area’s role in the war and the indigenous people who inhabited the land for centuries prior. The park also hosts regular educational field trips and is home to the Carter Mansion, the oldest frame house in Tennessee.

Carter County Car Club Cruise-ins are a staple of the Elizabethton community. Held each Saturday evening throughout summer, classic car owners and enthusiasts line East Elk Avenue to celebrate the bygone era. “It’s a bunch of men and women that want to show off their cars, talk and enjoy their vehicles,” Williams says. Elizabethton Farmers Market is held nearby at Covered Bridge Park every Tuesday evening from June through September. “They have food trucks and a lot of vendors selling bread, vegetables and crafts,” Williams says. “It’s been a really big event the last few summers.”
